AnonymousInactiveI thought I would create this new topic for those that are taking REG in the October/November testing window. I am taking this test on October 19. Anybody have any experience with this section?

AnonymousInactiveMade the study plan last night. I have less than a month to fit in REG. I don't think I will have too much trouble as long as I stick to my plan.

AnonymousInactiveI took Reg in August and scored 65, very bad. I used Becker and before the exam was scoring 90-100% on the multiple choice. However, I feel like i Just memorize the answers without understanding the main concepts. I did not even know anything on simulation and the communication part was very complicated. Anyway, after talking to Jeff, I ordered Yaeger homestudy. I will try to change my study strategy because Reg is not my first, I have also taken FAR and AUD and failed. I feel like giving up but I will try to grab the bull by the horn this time. I will be retaking Reg Nov 30th.

AnonymousInactiveThe point is not whether Becker is good or not. Every thing depends on your study habit and your schedule as well as understanding. For some people Becker is good for them and for others Becker is not good enough. I am saying based on what I have read on this site. I left school about 8years ago so I need to go back to basis. In addition I am a single mom with full time job. I beleive Becker is okay for multiple choice but based on my experience, Becker did not prepare me for simulation. Again, it depends on the individual.

AnonymousInactiveI am taking REG Oct 5 and I can definitely feel the pressure starting to come on. REG is a large exam with a lot of detailed material. I am curently ending my seventh week of study. About two hours per weekday (weekends are for me haha). Anyways, my main point is that – have really found a great review program. Everyone at work was using the 2000 dollar becker coursen but I didn't want to pay that much. I found the course I am currently using, CPAexcel, and I have honestly had amazing results. 92 on AUD and 86 on BEC with minimal (80 hours or less) study time for each. If can afford to sign up with this program, I highly highly reccomend it.

AnonymousInactiveI think Becker's books are really easy to understand, and they do a pretty good job of explaining the answers to the MCQs. I also memorize the problems.. I have a great memory & tend memorize the answers after going through once without meaning to, so by the second time I go back I already know the answer. However, I am bad at multiple choice (second guessing myself ALL the time.. working on it) so practice is key. A lot of people on here have told me to get the Wiley book with MCQs & Sims on Amazon.com for under $40, so I am going to use Wiley as a supplement to Becker. I want to skim the book and go over parts that Becker didn't explain clearly, or maybe even not at all. Then, do their MCQs/Sims. Its all just more practice & knowledge reassurance.
I've also heard mixed reviews about REG simulations, but I've heard that gift tax is a hot topic for them. So i think just doing as much practice as we can is the best way to prepare.

LilysmommyParticipantDoes anyone wonder why they test so heavily in the law area? My boyfriend has been a practicing CPA/tax manager for eight years and I have been a staff accountant for almost five now. If a client actually asked any type of legal question, we would obviously tell them to contact their attorney because we cannot give legal advice. What are your thoughts/opinions on this issue? Jeff?
BTW: I am using Becker too and I hope that it is enough. Luckily I have work experience on the tax side on individual and corp/part returns, but hardly any gift/estate. I am actually more concerned about the law side.

AnonymousInactiveI am re-taking the exam on Oct or Nov (not decided yet), …
This is my last paper and have scored 67 last window, i am using Becker.
My big problem was the time Mgt, when i reached the simulations it was about 40 minutes to go !!
I was unable to concetrate on the first simulation because of the time scare !!
Any suggestions for a cheaper online course that provide more practice for the simulations (my concern) ?
Thanks and wishing for you a good luck

QCPAParticipantI had the same situation as alaoi86; when I was in the first simulations I was so stress
that I can even work on the last one because of the time and neither concentrate to do the best in the first one. I couldn't finished the test; I scored 62. I passed the test before with 75 years ago; I give up on the CPA until last April that I decided to study again I pass audit with 77 after two attempts long time ago. Now I am study for FAR and after that, I will sit for Regulation again; I am using Becker's and getting some others questions from CPA for free and information related with section 1231 etc from Gleim to have more information because Becker do not cover enough those sections.
Something I know for sure, I will be a CPA no matter what!!!!!!!!!!

jeffKeymasteralaoi86 – if you're looking for simulation practice, Yaeger HomeStudy usually works at least one simulation on the video per topic.
