I’ve been studying for Reg for a few months and was planning on taking it at the end of November but fell off pace a bit and I know that I’m not ready to take it yet. I’ve been studying with Roger CPA review using his books and lectures. Since I know tax changes year over year, am I going to have to restart studying all over again? I guess my question is, will I be able to pass the test in early January using the old 2012 books?

I think you will be fine. If they test on you on anything specific say the standard deduction they will usually give it to you in the problem. I took REG in 2011 and 2012 using 2011 material(with the free updates). Plus if there are any changes to the books Roger gives you updates(Nov/Dec) if you are still in your window since purchase. I don't think I will be getting more updates for 2013 because I purchased my materials in 2010… hope that makes snese.

I'm not taking REG until they pass a 999 law.

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and new to this crazy world of studying for the CPA exam. My first exam is REG and it's on July 15th. Yay (read sarcasm). This question has probably been beat to death, but since I'm new to this site I am hoping for a “free pass” – Will the exam I take on July 15th use the 2012 AGI limitations, or will I be tested on the 2013 limitations? For example, the medical expense AGI limitation is 7.5% for 2012 and 10% for 2013 (unless an individual is 65+).

I've been working in tax for 5 years and for some reason I thought REG would be a breeze. Ha, silly me.
