Studying with 2011 Materials

I currently have the 2011 materials for Regulation. I haven’t began studying yet. I am not sure if I should wait to begin my REG studies because I have a bad feeling I didn’t pass BEC. I am wondering if I am ok studying with 2011 materials for this section? I am aware of the updates on the Becker site but are these enough to supplement my “outdated” materials? I do have the 2012 Becker Final Review Software and Flashcards.

A lot of people (Most?) have had to use 1-year old materials to study for a section or two. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it – unless you really have alot of extra money laying around.

    REG - Passed!!
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed

Thanks Whatdidyou! I guess I will just print out the Becker updates and add them to my materials.

REG is same as 2011 ed.

Was also looking for a little reassurance on this. I just took (and hopefully passed) AUD in August 2012, using 2011 materials with updates. It didn't seem like the older material mattered. I was a little more concerned with REG because there seems to be a significant amount of tax topics, and I know tax laws change frequently. Has anyone taken and passed REG recently using 2011 materials?

    Thanks!

I passed FAR, BEC, and AUD with 2011 materials. Hoping REG too. I think the only difference is Sec 179 amounts and some other topics. I made sure I knew the 2012 numbers, but they never came up on the exam. I have seen a couple posts of people who have passed using 2011 material.

I used 2011 materials and passed (barely) this last July. There are a few minor amounts that are different like @dualmatrix mentioned. My brain is mush so I can't remember particulars. I think casualty loss was one of them as well.

Honestly, not enough to matter. If you use the current Wiley Testbank and Ninja notes or audio I think you'll be fine.

How am I going to know which amounts have changed? I don't use Wiley, only my 2011 Becker and Ninja notes/audio.

    Thanks.

The ones in your ninja notes should tell you which ones have changed. If there's any difference between becker and ninja, use the ninja numbers since it's up to date. The amounts that change every year won't be tested, but some fundamental ones that are tested, such as Sec 179. Be sure to check the Becker knowledge base to see the updates to the 2011 version.

Great advice! I printed out all the Becker updates yesterday. I'm not sure if its worth going through and manually changing everything in the book if they don't test actual amounts. Although it is nice to have the most current information.

I'm also currently using 2011 materials for REG. I actually used 2011 materials for all my tests and I've taken them all in 2012. I'm using Roger though and he provides any updates (and there's usually not many).

Can the same be said for using 2011 Wiley books for the 2012 exams? There arent really any “updates” to the Wiley books, with the exception of Ninja Notes.
