Hi everyone, I’m studying for my last exam which is REG. I have no tax or business law experience but I took one tax class and loved it. I saved this exam for last not thinking it would be easy by any means, none of these exams are, but I figured I’d be so burnt out by now that I’d benefit from studying material that I actually enjoy. Studying has been going well. There are topics that I’ll definitely need more work on but I’m still motivated and interested in the material. However, I’ve been reading all these posts that REG has the worst SIMS and that its probably the hardest exam for a majority of people. I’m starting to get really nervous about the 3 hours as well. I’m a slow test taker and I was down to the wire in each previous exam. Is there anyone out there with no tax experience that didn’t struggle as much with REG? I’m starting to think I have false hope. I’m putting in quality study time and not taking this section lightly but I didn’t realize so many people thought this one was the worst one.

    FAR-85 (1/28/15)
    AUD-91 (4/3/15)
    BEC-82 (5/21/15)
    REG-90 (7/31/15)

    I am done!!!!

Actually it was my best exam, but it was tough. I would kind of brush off UCC (don't go crazy with it) and really delve into taxation per the structure of the exam only 20% is dedicated to business law anyways. Also know professional responsibilities. Also know key sections of the Code so the research SIMS will be easy.

You didn't really think REG would be easy, did you? I know people that have failed it many, many times. That being said, it is very passable test it just takes endurance and dedication (just like all the other tests).

    FAR- 82
    REG- 93
    AUD- 89
    BEC- 88

You are smarter, more focused, and more brilliant than you give yourself credit for. Believe in yourself and truly know in your heart that you can do it.

@wr8280-thanks for the tips and congrats on passing! No I didn't think it would be easy by any means. I don't think any of this is easy. I just thought since I “enjoyed” the material a little more than the others that I'd get over being burnt out and get as much quality study time in as I can. I would never use the word “easy” to describe this journey! Thanks again!

I'm in your same boat… I saved it for last because the topics interest me but I have NO experience working in tax and didn't much care for tax courses in college so I really wanted the opportunity to learn some tax/blaw during my exam preparation. The materials haven't been too bad as you have said but I am also worried about the SIMs. After FAR I know that the SIMs you draw are completely luck and can be relatively easy or stupid hard so I guess I'll hope to get lucky on exam day for the REG SIMs but if anyone has any insight on a way to prepare for them that would be appreciated.

I hate to say it, but REG was the only exam where I felt really pressured for time.

It is an exam from hell…the can't pass try after try…your scores show that you have a solid grasp on the CPA material overall but just dont take this exam lightly…study hard, get into the MCQs early, and focus hard on SIMs! These exam has the hardest set of SIMs by far….and 3 hours is brutally short for time management…

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    REG - 76

Now I need some experience!!! And some networking...
