Strategy – Q2 Window REG Retake

    Hi All, I realize this will be mostly subjective- but that’s exactly what I am looking for, your opinions 🙂

    I have Regulation remaining with have 4 testing windows to pass after I just squeezed my first try at REG (not enough study time) early this month and failed with a 70.

    Since the score release for Q2 isn’t until the end of June, would you schedule the exam early June at the end of the window, or would you schedule it earlier since it’s a retake and up to 10 weeks is a long study period for a retake?

    I am leaning towards early June because I can study at a manageable pace, and truly learn the topics (specifically entity taxation which I was weak at – SIMS) while going into exam day as prepared as possible.

    Am I overthinking this? Perhaps there is no reason to take it sooner (as long as I can retain info!).

    Thanks

    Can't think of a reason to not maximize your prep time, unless you have schedule conflicts or outside commitments. I invariably end up studying less than intended, so it's nice to have some room for error.

    @drew I think it depends on how u learn & what u really learned. I got 74 & then retested w an 81 . I took my time studied like it was a new test. I took the normal time I normally wud.
    I graduated 12 years ago & needed lots of review. I did all mcq twice. I was trending in 80's. I stopped thinking “I only need one point ” and studied like I need an 80.

    Hi @Drew –

    I remember you from your other FAR post (the one that gave me hope). We were in the almost-same situation, trying to cram a REG try in at the end of the window just to see how we'd do. Well, believe it or not, I got the same exact score as you! I had so hoped I'd have been done, as I'm sure you did as well. But no regrets, because honestly for 3 weeks I'm pretty impressed with my score and I'm sure with a full concerted study session this time I can hopefully pass it and move on with my life. I hope for you as well.

    With the score delays last year I don't have the luxury of as many windows as you for this final part. I have two, but I am pretending I have one so I can put the pressure on myself to buckle down and finish this. (Mental trick I hope). I need to be done. I am so mentally exhausted.

    Anyway I am struggling with your exact question now. With one exam left, the entire window to take it, and not getting the result until end of June – grr! I just know from my experiences the longer I dragged things out, the worse I was. I need concentrated studying almost daily. For my 6-6.5 week last re-take of FAR, I maybe took 3-4 days off in total. I always did something to keep everything fresh. I haven't made a plan yet because I am waiting for my NTS, but I'm thinking I'm going to do 5.5-6.5 weeks for REG, and aim for mid-late May. I don't think I'd need longer than I did for FAR and I felt really good about a lot of the material. (Waiting for my score report to see for sure where I stood). I am going to start from scratch on Wiley again because I have the time, and follow up with Wiley TB and Ninja MCQ. I had only time for 500 questions in Ninja in the 3 weeks so I want to be able to finish that this time around and make a big dent in Wiley. I think that should be enough to get the job done, but like Julia said, I am going to aim HIGH for this one and hope I can get a higher score than needed.

    I think you need to do what's best for you, and what has worked for you in prior situations. You can trust your gut, as you have some time on your side. REG is hard, but not as much material as FAR, and I think we were both pretty close for the limited time we studied. I sincerely hope we both beat this and get good news in June. 🙂

    @calvinus thank you I think this will allow me the luxury of not burning out!

    @julia
    It's funny you say that, I've said out loud so many times I am going to study to get a 90; at least it seems to help with that mindset

    @kimberly
    thank you for you reply it's amazing to discuss such similar parallels with other candidates. Originally I had planned for mid-late May, but have been leaning towards June 6th which I think mainly will assist me in not burning out. I hadn't taken any study breaks at all from from passing 3 including a few retakes (beginning well over 1 year ago) and with work being crazy I think I hit a huge wall my last week prior to taking REG. I sort of stopped studying that week because I would look at the screen and draw a blank and glaze over.

    Nice to recoup a bit and not stress about a 6 week turnaround. With that said, I also see all the merit in your point on a re-take – hence my original question peaking our interest. Keep me updated on your studies! Good luck, we will make it! 🙂

    Same situation here, except I can't be bothered to even start studying for BEC. I'm just opening to a random page (usually for the first time), and highlighting stuff to be put on flashcards later.

    I'd consider an earlier test date only if the results would also be available earlier.

    @Drew – Well I definitely see the need to not burnout, and if you haven't taken any breaks I can see why you may. This process is so mentally/physically exhausting. So definitely spread the schedule out since the time allows. Thanks to the delays, I did get some 2 week breaks in there over the last year, but I never want to take too much more than that though, so I am going to try to start up again mid-week on REG again. Even though it's really hard to try to make another push when you are so mentally done. But we can and we will!

    Definitely helps to talk to others who are in similar situations. It's a lonely journey, so it helps to feel not alone. This board has helped me for that.

    Definitely let's all see how we do the next couple months. We can do this! Good luck!
