Just got done posting about my reg exam experience and a situation came up and I wanted ya’ll advice on something . If you get to sims and only have time to really answer one and there it , is it best to work one out completely and leave the other ones blank or would it be best to take a swag at all of them? thanks..

Stick to the time allocation that you planned prior to taking the exam. If that means randomly guessing on mcq's to move on, then do it. I think people underestimate the worth of the SIMS. They are worth ~40% of the exam. I'd rather have a filled out a SIM than 5 mcq's.

    This is all IMHO tho…

I'm with cash money, the sims are worth too much of your score to allow yourself to be in that position.

I understand what you are saying and I thank you for your responses, however the only thing I have to say about that is that the first time I took FAR I did that…. I stayed to my allocated time resulting in me guessing on a lot of mcqs; so I had time for the simulations. I did do great on the sims, they were actually my strong part. I was very confident on all of them, however I failed because I was weak on the mcqs. The mcqs are worth 60%, so I am not sure if you would want to just blow through them just to save time, right? Again I am not trying to be rude but wouldn't MCQs be just a tad bit more important than the sims? Thanks…

Well I would say the same thing as the two posters above… BUT if you get to the sims without enough time I personally would go through and fill out would I could QUICKLY first. There are usually some parts to every sim that are super straight forward… For REG there were certainly some super quick easy cells to fill out. I would probably take a swing at the research question. Then go back and take a stab at everything I couldn't do.

If you only have time to tackle ONE sim you are screwed though and you might as well clock out and go home.

In total the mcq's are worth more than the sims, but remember there are 97 of them! Don't let a handful of mcq's tie you up, because the value of each mcq is minimal. Time management is really a major player on exam day.

thanks….on all of my other exams I did well with Time Management, but they were AUD and FAR and there is an hour difference between those and Regulation…I believe that may of thrown me off….So what is your advice if you get to a mcq that you are not sure about, do you try to work it out or just take a swag at it???

NEVER spend more than 2 mins on any single multiple choice question. Just pick an answer and move on.

If I wasn't sure I'd guess and mark it. If I had allocated time left at the end of each testlet I'd go back and try to figure it out, otherwise I'd hope for the best. I figured each correct partial sim was worth much more than each mcq. I was lucky never to run out of time but for all sections I gave myself over an hour for sims.

So is the max time 2 minutes…Typically for REG or BEC, how much time should I spend on each MCQ Testlet???
