I just flunked REG for the THIRD TIME!!! It is my last exam. I will lose credit for FAR in February. I felt so prepared going in to the exam this last time. I was getting in the 80s and 90s every time I did a set of MCQ’s. I felt like I knew why the right answers were right and why the wrong answers were wrong when I was studying. Then I got to the exam and I did worse than the other two times I took it. The SIMS have gotten me all 3 times I have taken the exam.

The day I got my score, I had my second performance evaluation at work and it was terrible. I am really afraid that I am going to lose my job before the end of the year. I have only worked in public accounting for 8 months so I am concerned that I won’t be able to get my 2,000 hours in before I get fired. I am the primary bread winner in my family and I have 4 kids that still are at home.

My husband wants me to be done because we don’t have any extra money right now. I have been using the 2011 version of the Wiley test bank so I really should update that plus there are the fees to take the exam. He also thinks that I should be spending my extra time looking for another job since I am probably going to lose my current one soon.

I am thinking that I should try again while I am looking for another job. I know that it is going to be tough coming up with the money but I am just one exam away from being done. It would be really hard to just walk away from it now when I am close. However, I feel like such a loser for flunking a third time and messing up at work. Is the universe trying to tell me to pack it all in and move on to something else or do I have another go at it?

    AUD 74, 83
    FAR 75
    REG 71, 71, 70, 86!!!!!! 🙂
    BEC 85

    Omg, Katie, that is fabulous.

Mitzie, I agree with Mini. I am also a mom of 4 and I just finished my first year on the job, so I can empathize with your situation. The next couple of months are going to be very stressful, but it is SHORT term. While you are at work, do whatever you can to keep your job to get the hours. While you are at home, study your butt off. Get the 2012 Wiley test bank, pass the sucker, then get you hours signed off….THEN make life decisions.

This is short term…YOU CAN DO THIS. Freak, you've already passed three sections, this exam cant beat you!

    FAR -- 90
    AUD -- 95
    BEC -- 82
    REG -- 92

    DONE!

If you're in public accounting, you're probably going to get fired if you don't have your CPA at some point anyway….

So, you can keep studying for the CPA exam, pass REG and maybe not get fired (and if you do get fired, at least you have a CPA now, which will help you find another job).

Or, you can stop studying for the CPA exam, not get your CPA, and get fired because you don't have your CPA. Then you have to find another job without the CPA credential which will be harder to do, and won't pay as much.

The former seems like the clear-cut choice to me. Don't quit.

    AUD - 99 (7/31/12)
    FAR - 90 (8/29/12)
    REG - 10/2012
    BEC - 10-11/2012

I passed REG on the first try with Yaeger. Yaeger helped so much more on problems than Becker.

I don't think that is actually true. The longer you're on the job, the more valuable you are. Most firms, big ones anyways, will keep you on but just won't promote you. Almost always, people who can't pass will end up leaving on their own accord once they hit the ceiling because they are dissatisfied with being stuck in a lesser role with lesser pay/raises than the people they started with.

I think firing is pretty rare in the first couple of years due to not passing. It's likely even rarer beyond that point because firms are always in need of seniors, so it is quite rare for them to be overstaffed at that level for very long (even if they are temporarily it is just a matter of months before someone jumps ship).

    REG - Passed!!
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed

    Study Materials: Becker basic course
