Hey I am a little confused; I have read in a number of posts dont focus on REG 5-8… Focus on R 1-4? Isnt 17-21% of the exam on Business laws and contracts? Is this advice due to the fact that the rest of the exam is on R1-4, and the concepts in R5-6 are easier to grasp/memorize? I am just wondering if I may be wasting too much of my time on subjects that will not be as important to me passing ? Also any ideas about how to utilize the Becker final review software in the last few days before the exam?

I definitely wouldn't blow off REG 5-8. The information is not difficult – it's just voluminous (which I guess can make it difficult in its own right). Yes, there are breakdowns of the percentage of questions that come from tax and the percentage of questions from law, but those are based on statistics. Who knows – come test day, you may get an outlier exam with a large percentage of law questions. Aren't these exams wonderful? You get to prepare for everything and then an overabundance of it never shows up on your actual exam come test day!

I had the joy (please note the sarcasm) of taking REG three times. Each time was worlds different than the other time. Don't sell yourself short and not study certain areas or skimp out on areas. They are included in review books for a reason. Trust me…skimping on the “blaw” portion is not worth it!

are the MCQ in the study courses typically easier than the ones that one would see on the exam? Is it really up to chance in terms of the difficulty of the MCQ?

The level of difficulty of MC can significantly vary both in the exam sense and in review material.

I would focus a lot more on Chapters R1-R4. I barely failed REG on July 1, and I had a “stronger” on Blaw even though I spent probably 20% of my time on Blaw. I got “weaker” in transactions with entities (R3 & R4) and on sims. SIMS are most likely to be all on tax topics, and I felt like they are what caused my failure. I knew diddly squat about taxes before I started studying (last tax class was 6 years ago) and I felt like the sims were set up for people that are in the field, if that helps at all. People say you can't really practice SIMS, but for my retake I am going to hammer out SIMS in the WTB.

ok so basically focus energy on R1-R4, but definetely do not focus on Buss law

well it sounds like you're dead set on focusing on R1-R4 even though the first two responses said not to put all your energy into those chapters. If you're confident in your knowledge of business law then by all means focus on tax, but don't be surprised if the CPA gods put every blaw topic you don't know on your exam.

No, I am just curious as to where I should focus my energy in my final review. I believe I gave most of the chapters equal focus (exception R8 due to the fact my exam is in two days). I just want to make sure I thoroughly understand everything. My first exam; I am totally nervous. I feel like everything that I thought I was solid on two weeks ago is completely lost!
