BEC is out. Hopefully it is not too much longer for us! Sadly, REG always seems to be last :-/

thanks, do the other becker users out there feel the same way?
Also, is it pretty easy to finish this exam within the time given, because i was short on time for FAR but i finished the REG practice exam with 55 minutes to spare especially because it appear the majority of questions dont involve a calulation or the calc is relatively easy?

Surprisingly, I've found some pretty good help in IRS publication 544. I was shocked that it was in pretty plain english with clear examples. Its outlined so you can skip around to sections you need.
Never did I think the day would come that I'd be reading IRS publications…

hmmm As far as the amt stuff what do you mean know it, do you mean just know what to add back or subtract out? Like just give us AMTI and give us a list of stuff and ask for AMT before exemption, like becker does? and the law if it's 30% that's roughly 21 questions, does that seem accurate?

@Jason, what is this 30% you are talking about
July 17, 2010 at 9:51 pm #240539AnonymousInactiveI did the progress tests through Becker over and over and over again. When I sat for the exam (7/13/10), I felt I knew all of the MCQ. They were very similiar to Becker. Also, go to Becker Updates for Reg, KNOW the R1 Supplemental information. This is very helpful for some of the MCQ and in the simulation. Must do 🙂 I completed as many simulations as I could through Becker material. Don't let the simulations scare you. (I did and wasted time on freaking out rather than just going through the simulation.) On to BEC.

July 18, 2010 at 5:55 pm #240541AnonymousInactiveHi everyone. I'm new and I decided to join. I just took Reg yesterday (Saturday). I've been using Becker.
I see a lot of people had a similar experience to mine this testing window. I walked out thinking it could go either way. I did all of the study questions and used the flashcards quite a bit. I used them in areas with a lot of memorization. Also, I did the practice simulations. About 2 years ago, I started studying (using Becker paid for by my old employer PwC) and I only got through Reg before I started traveling a lot and such and didn't finish. My experience then was I studied everything solid except for partnership tax. I breezed through the MC and ended up getting two terrible simulations. I pulled a 72.
This time, I made sure to get through all of the material once and the parts I was struggling with I went back over. I used the flashcards a lot. Anyway, I had a completely different experience. I thought I would be more prepared this time but going through the exam, I was not 100% sure on a lot of questions. There were about 17 that I was really iffy on. For both of the simulations, I would say I got about 1/2 credit for each. I was familiar with the topic but not thoroughly and both were in areas that had less than a page in our books covered by Becker.
I've got Gleim books and for BEC, I'm planning on using both Gleim and Becker. I know a lot of people who used Becker and passed first time. I don't doubt it's possible and prepares you well. However, someone mentioned earlier in this thread that sometimes you get a bad hand. Rather than take these things forever, I'm just going to literally study non stop until the test. When I'm done with the Becker section, it's on to Gleim. When I'm done with Gleim, I'll find something else until my exams.
July 18, 2010 at 11:59 pm #240542JasonParticipantBaseball 21,
I have no idea a few people on here say 70 tax 30 law for the mc, and a few colleagues of mine said the same. At the same time others said there is only 2 or 3 law questions. I believe it is a toss up and that you will get one or the other. I'm just going to study everything and be as prepared as I can for whatever is thrown my way.
Good luck to all!

July 19, 2010 at 1:23 pm #240543AnonymousInactiveI just wanted to share that I am having a really good experience with cpareviewforfree.com. Questions are complex and make me understand concepts very well. After I do 1 set on a topic there – I nail Becker/ Wiley questions.
July 19, 2010 at 8:06 pm #240544AnonymousInactiveSo i normally get somewhere from a 78 to a 87 on the hw's and all the progress quizzes i have done. But only got a 70 average on the mult choice section of the timed Simulated Practice Exam using Becker. Can someone who has passed Reg so far, especially people who used Becker, should i be ok or should I be worried. i take my test Friday and i am getting to the point to where i dont know how much more studying is gonna do since i tend to just forget other stuff and i learn new stuff at this point.
July 20, 2010 at 3:51 pm #240545JuliaParticipantHi everyone,
I'm using Becker 2009 in my preparation. I went on the Becker website to update the info and found two updates. 1 update is with tax exlusions/deductions for 2009, and 2 is for 2010. What year is tested? Please help ASAP cause my exam is scheduled in a few weeks.

July 21, 2010 at 6:53 am #240547JasonParticipantAnna I got a question for you since you've taken the real thing twice.
Are the questions on cpareviewforfree.com similar to the real thing? I have done them all twice and all becker questions like 5 times. I am nailing all tax questions on everything but the law questions on that site are redonculous and I get like 65 on those.

I take my exam on Friday too. I've taken and passed two other sections of the exam. When I did the practice tests for both parts before, I scored much lower than I would have liked and sometimes not even passing. Then when I got my real exam scores, they were much higher. I'd say people tend to score 5-10 points higher than the becker practice exams. So that's a good indicatore for you. Becker practice exams are much harder in my opinion, but don't stop studying. Just keep up a steady pace so you don't forget the one or two important concepts you might need the day of the test. Good luck to both of us!
July 21, 2010 at 3:12 pm #240549laschndrParticipantI think cpareviewforfree has some good questions to help you make sure you're hitting all the topics. However, I don't think the structure of a lot of the questions is similar to the actual exam, and they also seem to contain a lot of typos. So be careful of things like that!
Also I could have sworn that I read that tax issues are always tested for the year prior, so 2010 testing will cover tax laws of 2009. I just tried finding evidence of it but I can't find anything!
