BEC is out. Hopefully it is not too much longer for us! Sadly, REG always seems to be last :-/

June 28, 2010 at 1:19 pm #240461Jules2486ParticipantI take Reg on 7/6 and it is my last one! 🙂 It is so exciting to think that I could be completely done studying in 8 days.
June 28, 2010 at 11:41 pm #240462WendyParticipantEveryone else on their Monday night cram session? I just took a practice test on R1 for Becker and got a 90… The bad side is that it took me re-writing basically the WHOLE chapter by hand to get that high… Guess since it worked though I will be getting more written exercise tonight!! Good luck studying tonight everyone!!
Hopeful this time around.... Back after a 2 year break!!
BEC - Feb 2013 78!!
FAR - May 2013 76!!

I am also very discouraged since I already took AUD, REG, and FAR and did not pass any of them. I use Becker but am very disappointed in the material. I rewrote all the notes and now I am just banging out the MCQ until it sticks….
Any advise what else to do? I really need to get some sort of accomplishment from the last 7 months of studying and start seeing a passing score.
REG - Passed
FAR - Passed
BEC - Passed
AUD - 2-25-12 PASSED - DONE !!!!!!!! WOOHOO*** One day I will get my life back.... maybe today is the day ***
June 29, 2010 at 3:17 am #240465OH – CPA HopefulParticipantMagster, all I can say is keep at it. If you got a 73 it means you know the material pretty well. You are very close. Just study like you did the first time, hit the areas you scored low on, and do as many multiple choice questions as possible. This test is by no means easy. There are people who never failed a test in their lives who struggle with this test. You keep at, you'll eventually pass this thing. The only way you fail this test is if you quit trying.

June 29, 2010 at 3:24 am #240466JasonParticipantFor anyone that already took this is there more tax or law on the exam? I am doing fine with the tax, but the law is out of control. I understand the concepts but I just know the exam will be crazy for this part. Cpawreviewforfree.com is defiantly helping with the law though…..

June 29, 2010 at 3:53 am #240467laschndrParticipantJason, people have been saying it can be close to 50/50 with law/ethics and tax. I hate the law stuff, too, and I'm struggling with it myself.

Taking REG 7/27….
Anyone else heard of the Enrolled Agent exam? I came across a PWC job stated:
Requirements “…Certified Public Accountant [or commitment to pass CPA exam before being promoted to Manager and thereafter obtain CPA licensure], Enrolled Agent or Member of the Bar required.”
The EA cert is utilized mainly by non-CPA tax preparers, but it seems to be a valued certification. Its affordable and a natural extension from REG studying. The exam is offered by Prometric, has three sections costing $101 each, then an application fee of $125. No NTS drama- just pay online and schedule. From reading the candidate bulletin its basically the tax portions of REG, but covered in more detail.
Found a relevant thread here on another71: https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/anyone-studying-for-the-enrolled-agent-test#post-34371
This may be a good option for us job seekers to stay competitive!

-Plan to sit for Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS)June 29, 2010 at 12:32 pm #240469AnonymousInactiveJason – for my REG exam, the advice i would give to you is that, if you are solid with the tax chapters and know a little bit of the law i would say you are in good shape. i posted somewhere else on this forum that i definitely felt that 90% of my REG questions were tax. I spent an equal amount of time learning both tax and law. law was for the most part easy for me, it made sense. tax, it just seemed like there was so much of it to learn so i did the best i could. obviously it wasnt good enough but next time around, while i will make sure i know most of the law topics… i am going to KILL the tax chapters 😀
June 29, 2010 at 4:11 pm #240470JasonParticipantBryn333, thanks for advice!! I really appreciate it. I remember reading a while ago that the simulations are only on tax subjects and not law. Is there any truth to this?
I am money with the tax so if that is most of the exam then I'm hoping I'll be ok. I know some of the law and the becker questions are not that bad. But from previous experience with other exams, I am expecting the law questions to be super hard on the exam.

June 29, 2010 at 5:01 pm #240471mike01ParticipantYeah HoosierDaddy I am an Enrolled Agent. Your right about the detail. The depth of the questions are harder then the CPA exam, at least on the parts I have taken, just my opinion. I took the EA test both ways computer and all written and passed both ways. The first time I took it you could not even have a calculator and it was taken in a 2 day period at a IRS office and it took almost a year to get your score. And it was only offered 1 time a year around September. It was no easier on the computer. I think a lot of people think the EA test is very easy, but it has a very high fail rate too. The problem with the EA designation is hardley anyone knows what it means. That is why I decided to pursue the CPA, which I have passed Audit and BEC, I am taken FAR Aug 31. I have also taken and passed the CFE exam.
June 29, 2010 at 9:03 pm #240472PatrickParticipantAbout two weeks until I test, 7/12. I just found out I passed the AUD portion last week so I am pretty excited since it was my first one and now I feel that I have a pretty good study approach down. I am taking Becker live courses, and am fortunate enough to remember a lot just from going to class. For AUD, I didn't really go back and read much, but did almost every MCQ that I could. I think if you do enough MCQ, from whatever source, you eventually start seeing a pattern; I even had 3-4 questions on my exam that were the same as in my becker MCQ's.
Good luck to all! I too have heard from others, and becker instructors, that tax is emphasized a lot more than Blaw. One of my instrustors said that there has not been a simulation based on Blaw to date. Can anyone abck this up?
Thanks!

FAR - WAITING!!!June 29, 2010 at 11:12 pm #240473JasonParticipantPatrick,
that approach works perfect for audit that's pretty much what I did. But it does not work for the rest. There is no pattern on the other exams and the questions are a lot harder on BEC,FAR and REG (assuming haven't taken it yet). I would read through the book and do MC for the rest. I've also supplemented my REG with jeffs tax notes as well as cpareviewforfree.com we will see how I do! Defiantly should of used that site for BEC, because barely anything from becker was on there, but oh well I passed anyway, just barely lol.

June 30, 2010 at 2:05 am #240474PatrickParticipantThanks for the advice Jason. I happen to work in public accounting in tax, so fortunately the tax side of REG is pretty straight forward to me. So far on my first pass through the becker MCQ's I have scored above 90 on each portion. The blaw is more just memorizing, and luckily it hasn't been too long since my blaw course in college. Good luck to you on your exam.
