I am hoping to take Reg mid November and hopefully it will be my last exam….I have used the Becker 2009 course ware and the Becker 2006 text books for the other 3 exams and it seem to be ok….now with Reg I have heard you have to have up to date material and I have also heard that Becker is not all that great…..I am just curious what peoples thoughts are out there about approaching the exam….also Reg is only 72 MC questions??

    Thanks in advance

    FAR (75)
    AUD (76)
    BEC (75)
    REG (72), (80)

Hi there . . . I'm studying for REG right now, using Becker 2010, and I'm supplementing with CPA Review for Free. I think this will be sufficient. I also really like having Becker's flashcards for the theory aspects, i.e. business law, liability, and some of the tax rules that are hard to master.

    FAR - 94 (7/10)
    AUD - 99 (8/20)
    REG - 99 (10/15)
    BEC - 88 (11/20)

vukz – I would say you need the most up to date materials, so I would say buy the wiley book and test bank because it is the cheapest option or buy yaeger if you want the reg materials…. unfortunately with all the tax reform acts and tax legislation and it changes daily you can't really use 2006/2009 materials…. I'm finding becker a bit weak in areas and already bought the wiley book myself. Its also my last exam and I so want to be done this year, I'm getting a bit paranoid….

    FAR 7/2 - 88
    BEC 7/30 - 87
    AUD 8/27 - 80
    REG 11/12 - 96

I started my CPA studying with Becker and REG was the first section, and yes it is very important to have up to date materials. So many of the numbers/regulations keep changing and the book does address some of them, but it is important as some of the questions on the test will probably ask you to compute totals based on rates that have changed in the past. So it's particularly important to be up to date for REG. I actually thought Becker was really good for preparing me for REG, I have nothing to compare it to, but I did manage to pass the exam with only one tax class under my belt so it definitely helped me a lot. I found the flashcards really helpful and definitely went over them countless times before the test. I'd suggest that as they will come in handy. As for studying, do the questions as many times as you can, I found that to be very helpful as the ones in Becker are usually longer and more detailed than the ones on the real test. And don't underestimate the business law, etc. chapters. The material is pretty straightforward although detailed but I did have quite a few questions on it and they could be the difference between passing. Good luck!

I had both Becker and Yaeger for REG. However, I only used Yaeger for tax. I thought that Dr. Phil Yaeger did a much better job than Becker explaining all of the tax problems. Additionally, I used Bisk Hot Spots for tax only. Bob Monette with Bisk Hot Spots is a fantastic teacher, in the mold of Dr. Phil Yaeger and Cindy.

I ran out of time studying REG. Therefore, I spent my last 5 days before the exam listening to Becker's lectures on business law. I thought that Becker did a very good job on business law, but not on tax problems.

If you have becker download the PDF of updates. Edit your book before you start.

    FAR 92 - AUD 91 - REG 94 - BEC 86
