I just started studying for Reg last night and I noticed that all of the numbers for deductions or rates are for 2012, not 2013. (Note: I have the becker 2013 version) What does the reg test use as for numbers? It 2013 so I figured 2013 numbers would be used. For example in 2012 the max nontaxable gift amount is $13,000 but in 2013 it is $14,000.

Will REG test for 2013 numbers or 2012 numbers? Should I know both? Are there key places in which reg test strictly 2013 numbers or strictly 2012 numbers?

vital11- REG purposely doesn't include specific year's deductions so that the questions can be used for multiple years. If they do ask a question about the standard deduction, they provide the number. Becker used to say that in the videos.

@auslaf – thanks that is very helpful! I just started studying for REG myself, and am using a 2012 Wiley book. I bought all my stuff last year, and studying ended up getting delayed. I knew there weren't any changes to REG in 2013, but I wasn't sure if it was important to know the specific deductions for a the new year.

    AUD - 2/2013 - Passed!
    BEC - 5/2013 - Passed!
    FAR - 8/2013 - Passed!
    REG - 11/2013 - Passed!
