I have the 2011 Becker Reg book. I take my exam on August 30th. Do I use the updated 2011 numbers that are posted on the becker knowledgebase site or do I use the numbers that are already printed in my book. For example, in my 2011 becker reg book it has 2010 personal exemption is 3650. When you go on the becker knowledge base the new updated exemption for 2011 is 3700. If I wee to get this question on my exam, is the answer 3650 or 3700? Becker says tax laws in effect 6 months prior to the exam is fair game for testing. Also, how important is it to know the threshhold amounts, considering there are multiple different threshholds. Any advice on studying, I have approx 5 weeks.

hey, although they say it's fair game, it's not likely the exact numbers will be tested. the only changes that seem to jump out that would be helpful are the Section 179 $500,000 reduced $ for $ over $2,000,000 and the new start up expenses of $10K/$60K (nothign changed for organizational expenses). For numbers such as the personal exemptions, they're not going to ask you specifically what the new number is, they would actually give you the number to calculate something else most likely. i took the exam last Saturday, and i don't think i encountered anything having to do with the new tax laws.

for thresholds do you mean phase out amounts? if so, i don't think it's that important. just concentrate on the general idea and perhaps the OVERALL threshold, such as Tuition Fee deduction is limited to $4,000 as an example.

don't spend too much, if any time on SIMS, just concentrate doing the MC at least twice, if not three times. write down as much of it down to absorb the information and review your notes. good luck
