Is it fair to say that the Reg. exam is 80% taxation and 20% Business Law/other?

    Thanks.

    REG: 78

    I believe it's tax 60, professional responsibilities 20, and blaw 20?

Since I'm already here, is the REG exam 3 hours or 3.5 hours? With 6 sims?

Not sure how many SIMS. Book is not with me.

60-40 is what the CSO tells you to expect on the exam. Dont be fooled, the last time when i took it , it was 50% law, 20% Professional repsonsibilities and 30% tax. Tax was mostly theory and some computational. I landed with a 78.

Study like everyhting will be tested 100%……………

My test was 80% tax and 20% business law. I don't remember a single question about ethics–I was disappointed because I am already an EA and have to take C230 ethics every year so I know it well. Yet somehow on my score report I scored weaker on Ethics. Really?

I'm studying everything that wasn't on my test extra hard this time expecting a swap. But you never know.

Know it all, know it will, know it backwards and forwards. Plan for the unexpected and still be surprised on test day.

@CPApending, Thanks. I am also taking REG on 8/30, but your REG score is making me a little nervous. You did very well in AUD and BEC, what happened with REG? Did you study enough?

    FAR – 77

    AUD – 81

    BEC – 82

    REG – 8/30

    FAR: 77
    AUD: 81
    BEC: 82
    REG: 78

No don't let my score scare you….it was a bad Spring.

I was working 60+ hours a week, studying like a madman, running a tax business on the side, my Mom passed away the day after Easter, and I dealt with it by studying even harder. Wasn't sleeping or taking care of myself.

It was an abnormality. When I got to the SIMS I hit a wall and couldn't have told you what day of the week it was if you put a gun to my head. Complete and total brain melt.

    Thanks and likewise.

I have been redoing notes for the last two weeks and feel like I am absorbing it much better this time. I should complete my rewrite of the notes tomorrow.

Then I will start in for 3 weeks of Wiley and CPAExcel MCQ's and SIMS. Hopefully note carding the tax will really help.

I also plan to make a cheatsheet for carrie overs/backs, AMT calculation, Estate calculation, Trust calculation, items phased out, items refundable, and then a few tax items. I'll reproduce those sheets daily between now and the test.

Do not underestimate the law portion. Don't settle for an “overview” of those sections. You must know them just as well as tax. Also, don't be tempted to gloss over estate, gift & nonprofit as well.

This may sound crazy but don't think about about the test split very much. Assume that the test could be 100% law, 100% tax or 100% estate, whatever. REG is about knowing a lot of specific details.
