Hello everyone I have a question about REG study time. I scheduled the exam for Aug 30, 2011. I’ve probably put in about 20 hours of studying during the past couple of weeks in total. I know I need to pick up the pace with a month left until exam day. How much time would you all recommend that I study a week in order to pass? None of this information is new to me, its like a big huge review in that my I’m finishing up my Master’s in Accounting concentrating in taxation. Anyway, is this doable in 4 weeks?! and how much study time would you recommend for all of you that have passed?

I would think it's doable – especially since you've already put in 20 hours, doing a Master's in Accounting with concentration in taxation, and still have a month to study. But I don't know how much time you should put in each week (- I don't know if I passed yet with the amount of time I put in). Did you take any other exams yet and know how much time it takes you to read/listen to lectures/do mcqs, etc.? When I begin studying for an exam, I set out a semi-realistic schedule for the weeks before the exam and split up what to study each day. If you've studied for one of the exams already, you might have an idea of how long it would take you, and you can set up a schedule to see how many hours per week you need to spend in order to reach your goal. I think this would be different for everyone, and some people like taking their time till a week or two before the exam and then studying everything in a shorter amount of time.

    What would work for you?

Hey, I'm not so sure, I have a part-time job and my last week of class is next week so I should have lots of time to study within the next few weeks. I think I should be able to handle it. No, I haven't taken any parts of the test yet this will be my first that's why I was trying to get an idea. I'm going to try to do at least 3-4 hours during the week and double that on weekend days! Hopefully I'll get enough time in! Looks like we'll both be getting our scores in the September scoring window, let me know how you do!

I started studying for REG today and take it 8-31. I work 35-40 hours a week. I certainly think your timeline is reasonable. For myself, I am estimating around 125 hours based on what I studied for the other 3 sections. Basically, it is more about the quality of the time rather than the number of hours…

    BEC: 79 - April 2011
    FAR: 78 - May 2011
    AUD: 81 - May 2012
    REG: 79 - October 2012
    Ethics: Passed - March 2013
    I am finally DONE!

Wow, thanks for that advice. I guess compared to your study schedule mine is definitely doable. Nice to hear from someone who has taken 3 sections already! I feel I can do this!

Hey Rachel when did you start studying for REG? I'm thinking about putting in around 30 per week until the test on Aug 30. I've put in about 20 hours so far and I really am just getting in to study consistently today. Hope I have enough time!

I think its dooable, i actually took the online class from Devry For REG in march 2010 previously. However i started studying somewhere in the first week of july , i guess it was after 4 th of july. I have my degree from Canada, so had no prior knowledge of US tax. You have a masters already, You should be just fine .
