Quick question as I’m preparing to retake REG.. I’m debating between doing either x number of MCQ per day or doing x hours of MCQ per day. Does anyone have any reason(s) they can think of why one would be better than the other? Currently I’d have to do ~60 MCQ a day to do all of them available in Wiley which only equates to about 45min-1hour of time. Maybe it would be better to just set a time limit and do as many as possible? Thoughts?

Hi @emerged, when are you planning on sitting for REG? When I studied for REG using Becker. I did everything in terms of chapters and modules. Overall, there were 8 chapters (R1-R8), with most of these having between 4 and 10 modules. I went through a little more than 2 chapters a week. I found for me, I could reasonably knock out 2-3 modules in one sitting, sometimes more sometimes less. I would guess that I averaged about 25 hours a week, for just under 4 weeks when I was studying for REG. I would recommend you leave adequate time to review as well. Not sure if this is helpful at all, but it's what I did. Good luck on the retake.

I've always designated a set # of MCQs daily. For example, I did 10 sets of 38 MCQs (i.e. the amount that reflects the actual # of MCQs on the exam). I always tried to set an hour or so at the end of the day for practicing SIMs. I felt like practicing SIMs helped me solidify the concepts, especially basis for different entities, in REG more than other sections. I was able to devote 85-90% of my study time doing MCQs for AUD, BEC, and FAR, but definitely not for REG. I hope this helps!

My plan is most likely Nov 2 so I can retake FAR Dec 10. I use Wiley if that's worth anything. I think I learn best by doing the MCQ and reading through the explanations of why the right one is right and wrong ones are wrong.

I utterly agree that doing MCQs is the best way to learn for most people and I'm also a huge proponent of pounding MCQs if you look at my post/reply history – I always suggest hammering MCQs and learn from why the correct answer is correct and incorrect answers are incorrect from answer explanations, but don't completely neglect practicing SIMs for REG.

I would typically target to do 100 MCQs per day.
Depending on the section or chapter I was working on this might take 2.5 hours to do the MCQs and properly review each one, both the ones that I got right and the ones I got wrong, to ensure I got it correct for the right reasons.
45-1hour does not seem like enough time being invested. You have 24 hours in a day, I'd encourage you to use 2-3 hours a day on studying.

Thanks for the advice guys. I would note I do work full-time so realistically I have maybe anywhere from 2-5hours of freetime on the weekdays (depending on the day). I'll shoot for 3 sets of 38 and some serious review of the answers. I'd imagine that'd be at least 2 hours. I definitely do need to do some sims. Even 1 a day would be helpful and ramp that up the closer to the test date I get.

So @ B4BeanCounter: I have almost 20 days left before Reg. (0f course I rescheduled and still have not finished all the materials, mainly b-law) would it be wise to just go on and do the mcq's non-stop? or plan another focus. I am in the middle of doing extensions but I'm out of time if I don't take this 10/12. Open for suggestion. I know many have posted many techniques and I do appreciate this forum is why I am asking, but trying to find those posts and re-read them is tedious. (sorry).

I'm still open for suggestions, but no worries. I listened to the 20 day prep for ninja and will do sets of mcq's this week end. I'll make it my power week end. I am also listening to the ninja audio non-stop. literally. I can't go back to sleep so study it is……

@OP I would definitely aim for a certain number of MCQs rather than hours per day. Some days you are able to knock them out quicker than others. But just make sure it's quality time, not just going through the motions-we all have those days. Good luck!

@Tncincy-is this your first REG exam? If not, I would definitely jump into MCQ, but make sure you leave time to practice SIMS! 🙂 Good luck!
