I am feeling discouraged a the moment and need some guidance….

I just failed REG in May made a 61, don’t know my strengths and weaknesses. I have scheduled to take it again 7/1/15 hoping I can study some more over June and b/c it will still be fresh.

This is what I did the first time… CPAExcel videos, took note, did MCs, rewrote Ninja Notes, did MCs. =61

This is what I have this time still CPAExcel, Ninja Notes and Auto, and purchased Roger Cram.

Any guidance on a study plan for the next four weeks I have left?

I have a full time job, and 3 kids.

@Meagan, you sound like a rock star. Three kids, full time job, and studying for these exams. That takes a ton of self-motivation.

With 4 weeks left before you're exam I would focus on finishing the lessons in CPAExcel if you haven't and hitting the Review Phase in NINJA MCQ. I would do nothing but New Questions in NINJA until you've seen them all. Then work on answering the ones you missed correctly.

Random 20 question quizzes through out the day is the best way to do it. Set a goal like 200 MCQs a day and stick to it. You'll learn this stuff in no time!

    You've got this!

    FAR - 91
    REG - 88
    AUD - 98
    BEC - 88

There are so many of us in your same situation so know that you are not alone. The reality is that passing the CPA takes TIME! Something we all have the same amount of each day, but different priorities cause us to use that time differently.

Take time and write out a detailed and focused plan. Map out how many hours each day you will study, what sections, and how many MCQ's you will do. Three days of following your plan and you will develop your study habit and find your stride. The key is to make small attainable goals that will create a sense of accomplishment and reward for your over extended brain. For example, let's say your goal is to read a 1/2 of a chapter and do 50 MCQ's. Work until you reach that goal. You might have a few failures in achieving your daily goals, but that is ok. Keep reassessing your goals to maintain your focus.

As OK said above, you can do it!

    AUD - 90
    FAR - 71, 76
    REG - 75
    BEC - 76 (bubble sucks)

    Becker + Ninja MCQ's

I just wanted to chime in with Vern. I work full time and have two children. My husband is a CPA and I was basically a single parent when I was studying for FAR. And busy season is over and his hours are still ridiculous…all that is to say I know exactly what you are going through.

Vern is right about setting daily goals. There is no way I would have passed FAR without daily goals and yes, there were some days that I did not do all I set out to do but I did make sure that at the end of the week, I had accomplished everything on my list. (FWIW, I did my planning backwards, beginning from the date I was going to take the exam and allocated 4 weeks to final review and one week to each chapter in the book.) I then went through and notated how many pages I would read/MCQ I would do per day. A lot of planning went in to my studying because my time is limited and it needed to be productive studying. In short, make a realistic plan and stick to it.

I also am taking a lot longer to take the exams than others (one per window) because that is my reality. I am not sure if this is an option for you.

Also, I don't know if you have family nearby, but if so, try to get them to help. My mom watched my kids the weekend before the exam which was amazing – I accomplished so much during those two days.

Lastly, as Vern said, you are not alone. I have spent countless hours in the basement with only Becker for company which really sucks, but it will be worth it in the end.

Good luck and hang in there!

I echo others. Make a plan and stick to it. I am at REG attempt #5 (I know, pathetic) and am in my last window before FAR expires. My plan is to listen to Ninja Audio, read the Gleim book (tax portion), and do all the MCQs/SIMs in the book/online. I have a full-time job and I travel for work, so my life sucks even more!

    Good luck…

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    REG - 76

Now I need some experience!!! And some networking...

@ericaG28 I'm also leaving 4 weeks for FAR review. I'm happy to see you did the same thing and passed.

    BEC Feb 2015 68 - rematch Apr 2015 - 84
    FAR July 2015 77
    AUD Oct 2015 74 Feb 2016 71 April 2016 85
    REG Jan 2016 67 July 2016

@key, the 4 weeks worked out well. Two weeks out from the exam things started to click so I really could focus my review during the final two weeks. I don't think anyone ever feels ready but I did feel that I had done everything possible. I plan on doing for weeks for REG as well…I thought nothing could be worse than FAR but honestly I hate REG.

Thank you to everyone for the advice. I really appreciate it.

This process is giving me extreme anxiety already, so much so my kids(the teenage ones) asked me yesterday if I was okay!
