    Green, those are research questions. All four sections will have them. They aren't expecting you to know the code off the top of your head. But they'll present you with a scenario, ask which section of the IRC or other literature is applicable, and you have access to the IRC so you can look it up. The software should be preparing you for those types of questions. They can be easy points, but you need to know what you're looking for.

    Question about calculating depreciation for REG

    Ninja CPA Question #668

    “December 1, Year 2, Jeff Weber placed into service office furniture (7-year life), which costs $25,000. Jeff did not elect Section 179 expensing. The office furniture was the only asset purchased during the year. What about can Jeff claim as depreciation for MACRS for Year 2?”

    While I was able to choose the correct answer for this question because I realized it was mid-quarter convention with the asset being placed into service in the 4th quarter (I was expecting a low amount of depreciation), there is no way I would have been able to calculate the actual amount without looking at the depreciation tables.

    Are we expected to calculate MACRS on the REG section of the exam? and if so, is there a way we can look up the depreciation tables. No chance in hell I'm going to memorize depreciation percentages haha.

    @green I used Becker only. They have 3 mock exams now so it gets you even more practice. Make sure you know entity taxation well. It is a huge part of the exam. I did stronger in that area and I'm pretty certain that is why I passed. I thought REG was more challenging that FAR because it is easy to mix up what applies to entities.

    @Brian
    : can't recall any calculations for depreciation. I think you just need to know that MACRS is a part of ordinary business income.

    Anyone took REG with Becker recently? I want to know how spot on they are with their preparation. Can I rely on them solely?

    Howdy gang,
    It's me again. I'm jumping in again after several failed attempts. Making study my priority. Looking for good advice without spending a ton of money. (broke spending on retakes)
    I have Becker, was using Ninja. Received Becker as a gift, don't know if I should go with it or not. But all in.

    How are you guy handling working and studying? My REG exam is next friday and between work and studying I'm completely burned out. I find myself getting the simplest of questions wrong because I'm so tired.

    @lam2848 Go ahead and take a break. There is no need to lose momentum over a weary mind. take 30 and do mcq's in small sets, read your notes then go to bed.

    I took REG on June 10. I thought I did well but I fell short and made a 55. I think I need to study/practice my SIMS. I felt very confident with MC. I took two exams this quarter, REG and FAR (43). I was really embarrassed about my scores especially since I studied for 3 months for FAR. Any advice for those who have taken REG for a second time?

    @lam2848 I was struggling with the exact same thing – specially because I work in public accounting. What I did was change my sleeping schedule and now I get to work at 7:30 instead of 9 so that I can study in the AM when I am full of energy and then i stay 2-3 hours after work… it's a little exhausting but it sure works.

    @Tncincy I definitely need to take a break. I may just take a little 30 min nap when I get home from work. Hopefully that helps.

    @Abi I also work in public accounting. I usually get to work at 7 and leave around 4 to give me a solid 4 hours of studying when I get home. Its just so tiring. My exam is next friday but I took off all next week so I can focus on studying. My main goal is to become an expert with business law. Thats the main thing that trips me up!
