    @gplopooka same boat here. I'm just finishing up the business law section in Wiley. I took three exams in Q2 like you and I'm finding it hard to concentrate now with REG. The nice weather isn't making it any easier. I've resorted to studying out on my back patio a few days a week so it doesn't feel like I'm locked in a dungeon all day. I do know that there's one thing that will put some fire in my belly to handle REG and that would be if I passed all three of my exams. Good Luck to you! We got this!!

    The Mom and Pop exception is deductible from AGI or to get to AGI?

    @Jane – the “Mom and Pop” exception is the deduction against rental activity income. It's neither a deduction from AGI or to arrive at AGI. It's an exception to the loss limitation rules.

    @PDiddy2000 I sometimes study on my back patio too! Definitely makes it more bearable. Our yard is surrounded by bushes and trees so it's semi-private and we have lots of busy bird feeders. Helps the studying feel just slightly less soul-crushing.

    Waiting on BEC score release, but gearing up to take my last exam, REG. How long do you plan to study for REG?

    @haris.saleem

    Think of AMT as an additional tax to whatever your tax liability already is – The AMT you're “adding back” it's really the excess between AMT and your Tax Liability.

    Per your example if AMT was 70K and your tax liability is 40K then the AMT that you're adding back is the 30K which will bring your tax liability to 70K.

    Also AMT Tax is not a fixed number – it's a computation (see your book for detail).

    Hope that helps.

    @MPR i use Becker and went from a 73 in March to a 77 with the latest release. You really just need to focus on the struggle areas. For me i locked in on basis since it was the one topic i struggled with. Try to do a lot of SIMs if you can as well.

    Hi All,

    Planning to take Reg on early August. Waiting for my 3rd Audit score tomorrow. This exam is such a beast. Not sure how well I did with the Simulations in Audit and how sims are graded/curved.

    Hey all,

    Taking REG in a few weeks and had two topics I wanted to get feedback on:

    1) Did anyone else feel kinda hopeless in prep for REG? I've taken and passed BEC and FAR. I put in quite a bit of study time for both (using Wiley), and while the tests obviously weren't pushovers, I felt like I ultimately was able to just work hard enough to prepare in order to get myself ready. I feel very different about REG so far. I don't know if I'm distracted or what, but nothing seems to be sticking, and no amount of extra work seems to be driving some of the topics home. It's getting really depressing and hard to get motivated, knowing I just have to move onto the next lesson, which I will invariably struggle with as much as the previous ones. And there are just so many damn rules, as opposed to the other sections that focused on concepts. Maybe it's a combination with some external factors going on in my life, but I just feel like I'm not in a good place right now when it comes to my readiness for this section. Did/is anyone else encounter(ing) this, and if so, what did you do to (try) to overcome it?

    2) Apparently the test isn't changing with regard to the tax law changes until 2019. But there are topics that are pretty heavily covered in the study material I have that we know have just been entirely ripped out of the new code (estate tax, AMT, etc). Has anyone gotten a sense of whether the exam is still focusing on these topics, or has shifted to focusing on topics that have changed but have largely stayed in place?

    Sorry to sound like such a downer. I'm trying to work through it.

    Anyone preparing with Becker only? I am unsure if it is enough if I know Becker well for REG. Also I see a few simulations there that ask for the IRC section and subsection for a specific scenario. It is getting me nervous, am I supposed to know code sections?!
