mcohen1993……I used exclusively Becker for REG. I still have no idea what went wrong! I felt great and very confident when I left the testing center.
As you know, we are not allowed to discuss the subject matters on the exam.
You should be in a great shape if you are getting 80-95% while working on your homework Q's.

My advise, do not underestimate any subject…….and do not memorize ALL the phase outs.

    Good luck!

there is not much change from 2015 to 2016. Just go and update the new threshold and tax rate and you'll be fine

    REG 90
    FAR 95
    AUD 98
    BEC 84

law is not heavily tested. I'll say you are in good sharp.

For Section179 and bonus depreciation, I'll say if you get a question on those topic, the question would provide you with the threshold.

I read the first Regulation NINJA book today. The content seems easier to digest than Audit. Is anyone else using NINJA 10-point combo? If so, what is your study plan?

    Audit: 11/28/15 (72) April 2016
    Regulation: 2016
    Financial: 2016
    Business: 2016

While they typically do not test specific deduction amounts, 2016 deductions won't be tested until after Q2 testing window and most will be tested in Q3 testing window.

@hokinizeu Thank you for reply I was very worry about that .
and one more thing I wanted to know that wiley january edition containing all the 2014 rules like standard deduction for the year 2014 all the phase out amount for the 2014 .
In 2016 do they ask question on 2014 rules or 2015 rules.

    #747867

During Q1/Q2 2016, “if” they ask any deductions question at all, it'll be 2015 rules. personally, I don't recall being tested on deduction amount in the last 2 times I sat but it is something you should know.

Also, I hear some people being tested on phase out but it's at most 1 or 2 questions (I only memorized a couple and I was fine).

how many MCQs do you usually get through a day while first starting out on REG? I've only covered individual and corporate tax with Roger and I'm lucky to through 60 completely new questions… its take like 2 hours bc I'm looking up how to work through almost each problem. Is that a bad strategy?

    BEC - 75 (3x)
    AUD - 78 (3x)
    REG - 67, 66, Aug 1
    FAR - 54, Sept 8

How important is it to know the numbers of phase out threshold for personal exemptions? Should they be memorized and would they ask to calculate exemption % based on these numbers?

I have an example to share:

A married couple filing jointly has an AGI of $321,900 in 2015.what's the % of exemption they would get to which they are otherwise entitled?

    Soln: $321,900 – $309,900 ( indexed for 2015 )= $12,000/$2500 = 4.8 rounded off to 5

    5 * 2 % = 10 % there fore exemption the couple would get is 100 % – 10 % = 90 %

Note: Phase out reduces exemptions by 2 % for every $ 2500 by which the AGI exceeds.

@Claudia408 60 questions at a time doesn't sound bad at all! and your strategy is great, you should not be memorizing the answers but researching what the question is asking. you're doing great! the best thing would be to look up the IRC's or your cpa exam review material (Rogers book) but i understanding using your time efficiently is important b/c there's just so much to memorize. i still don't get how NASBA tests you in 3 hours when there are more than 5 times stuff you memorize vs the FAR formulas.

@RashmiRaghu i think other things are more important to memorize than the phase outs. things like what's above the line what's below the line, how do you compute the deduction for charitable contributions? only after you are done with those basics would i be concerned about “any” phase out type questions. they could ask you but they're more likely to ask you the bottom line questions i just mentioned. make sure you do lots of SIMs; i feel that's how i was able to pass on the 2nd try (as i learned how the concepts are applied).
