Income is not one of the test for qualifying child. See below for IRS rule:

Five tests must be met for a child to be your qualifying child. The five tests are:

    Relationship,

    Age,

    Residency,

    Support, and

    Joint return.

I don't know if they test this on the CPA, but the amounts in excess of SL for real property is actually something called unrecaptured 1250 gain. It is taxed at 25% or less. Like I said though I am unsure if they test that on the CPA.

    REG: 91!!
    BEC: 80!!
    AUD: TBA
    FAR: TBA

In the order I plan to take the exams.

Below is the (very recent) updated regulation for S-179. But it's to my understanding this issue is not testable until after 06/30/2016.

News Alert: ‘PATH Act' passed by Congress Raising Section 179!!

Dec 18, 2015 – The “Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015” (PATH Act) has been passed by both the House and Senate and signed into law – expanding the Section 179 deduction limit to $500,000. Read the summary from the Ways and Means committee here.

Section 179 will be permanent at the $500,000 level. Businesses exceeding a total of $2 million of purchases in qualifying equipment will have the Section 179 deduction phase-out dollar-for-dollar and completely eliminated above $2.5 million. Additionally, the Section 179 cap will be indexed to inflation in $10,000 increments in future years.

50% Bonus Depreciation will be extended through 2019. Businesses of all sizes will be able to depreciate 50 percent of the cost of equipment acquired and put in service during 2015, 2016 and 2017. Then bonus depreciation will phase down to 40 percent in 2018 and 30 percent in 2019.

IMPORTANT: Section 179 for Current 2015 Tax Year (This Year)
Section 179 can provide you with significant tax relief for this 2015 tax year, but equipment and software must be financed and in place by midnight December 31, 2015. Use this 2015 Section 179 Calculator (just updated for the new PATH Act) to see how much the newly expanded Section 179 tax deduction can save your company.

@ano – I think we should be fine if we just know the ones you mentioned. The others don't seem to be touched in any practice questions, or if they are then the info is given to us.

@future ninja- it seems like a good amount of questions will tell you which section 179 amount is the max. Usually you can tell which one is being used because the available answer selections will differ by a substantial amount ($500 vs $25).

    BEC - 80
    AUD - 64, 75 - credit lost, 90!!
    REG - 73, 74, 83
    FAR - 61, 72, 85

Feels good finishing on my best note. Time to watch the mailbox.

    Ano,

you don't need to memorize any of those standard deduction amount. They change every single year. There is no point testing in them.

Many questions are related to S Corp, C Corp and everything. I even had a SOX question that couldn't answer and ninja MCQ doesn't prepare you in that part. I will retake the exam at the end of January.

Hey all! Happy New Year and here we go again! I'm hoping this will be my final dance with the CPA exam.

Question: Is there a difference between “endorsement” and “indorsement”? Jeff uses them seemingly interchangeably, and nothing seems to recognize “indorsement” as a word…

    Exam:I'm done 🙂 🙂 🙂
    REG - 71 (2/22/14); 67 (4/3/14); 74 (8/29/15); 83 (2/29/16)!!!
    BEC - 72 (5/24/14); 85 (1/3/15)!!!!
    AUD - 72 (8/23/14); 76 (10/15/14)!!!
    FAR - 77 (5/26/15)!!!

Started in 2013 using Kaplan and failed REG, REG, BEC, AUD. Switched to NINJA suite in Sept 2014 and passed AUD...then BEC...then FAR!
REG took 2 tries but I finally got it in too!
I'm a hard convert - Using NINJA method with NINJA video/book/notes/MCQ

    Education: Check
    Experience: 3 months left! I hit 4 years on May 30 🙂

is it just me? when i take a practice session, i'm still like wtf for a lot of questions… like a lot of the practice Qs come out of nowhere that wasn't covered in my review course. this randomness is worse than BEC!!! and that's after almost 5 weeks of studying!!

    BEC - 75 (3x)
    AUD - 78 (3x)
    REG - 67, 66, Aug 1
    FAR - 54, Sept 8

To any Roger users who are retaking the exam,

How have you found his SIMs compared to the actual SIMs? So far, I'm on Section 9.

I have a bad feeling his SIMs are easier than what you would encounter on the exam. They've just been testing on concepts and less on calculation which I fear most of the SIMs will be on the exam.
