@zrpzlt – regarding memorizing phase out amounts/thresholds for adjustments:
My REG test is in two weeks and I'm not memorizing phase out amounts. I'm concentrating on understanding concepts and all rules and exceptions to them.
AUD - 78
REG - July/August 2013
BEC- May 2013
FAR - October 2013November 12, 2012 at 5:25 pm #388164rspencer2121Member@ MH, thanks for the tips. I'm going to hit the books hard during lunch and this evening to get through the rest of business law. I have to move on to Tax because business law is driving me crazy and I'm getting short on time. I just pray I can do enough MCQ and SIMS to pass with at least a 75!!
AUD Passed!! 7/2012
BEC Passed!! 10/2012
REG Passed!! 10/2013
FAR Passed!! 12/2013November 12, 2012 at 6:01 pm #388165rspencer2121Member@ Roma- thanks for posting this. I didn't realize Business law was 17-21%. I went on the AICPA website and printed the info. This tells me I really need to focus on Tax- like now. I think I've been through the business law info enough that I can do more MCQ during my review to feel comfortable. Thanks again.

I am getting ready for this bad boy! I am taking the test on November 29th. Time to make it count.
I am studying using Yaeger 2011 materials. In regards to the Estate and GST Taxes, what do we need to be prepared for? Will we need to calc this since there has been no taxes for 2010 and 2011? The video is going over how to calc when the death occurs in 2009.
If they eliminated questions on the Estate and GST, did they tack on anything else in its place?
Thanks for the help!
November 14, 2012 at 1:38 pm #388167RomaMember@chuckwildecpa,
You mention that you are using 2011 materials which sounds like you may be missing a big development from the Tax Relief Act of 2010 (passed Dec '10).
The Act put Estate taxes back into place for 2010-12 with a $5 million exclusion & 35% tax rate. This also impacted both Gift & GST taxes. These topcis are specifically listed on the AICPA Content Specs Outline as follows:
G. Estate and Gift Taxation
1. Transfers subject to the gift tax
2. Annual exclusion and gift tax deductions
3. Determination of taxable estate
4. Marital deduction
5. Unified credit
So, I would definitely be familiar with these topics. Hope this helps.
Good luck on the 29th !

CPA - Class of 2013
CIA - Class of 2016November 18, 2012 at 4:35 am #388169momto5MemberI wouldn't say to memorize them all, but I think you should know the fairly common ones – 1040, Schedule A, Schedule C, 1065, Schedule K and K-1, etc. I didn't really memorize any, per se, just was familiar with them in general. And remember that if you used a 1040EZ you wouldn't have itemized any deductions, so would not have used a Schedule A.

Also made sure to read through NINJA Notes a couple times for each. How about you?

For my first two exams, I used Becker(main) supplemented with Wiley and Ninja notes. For audit, i used only Becker and failed. I also received a PhD in Netflix while studying for aud so I cant really blame anyone except myself. Your scores are killer everytime thats why I ask. Im studying for Reg now using Becker Wiley and Ninja I just cant seem to get this stuff down. No matter how many questions I do, there is always something new that I just never seen before and I feel lost

Your scores look great! So far I have felt that Becker prepared me well for each one. The SIMS on REG can present you with stuff you have never seen before, at least not in the same context. Can't say whether I did well enough on those to get by or not. Glad I am very busy this week with Thanksgiving preparations so I don't have too much time to worry about it. It is what it is, and if I have to retake, I may consider getting the Becker Final Review (even though I didn't really think they helped me a LOT previously any more than my own review). I just wonder if they may have additional things in the Final Review that were not really covered in the regular class.
For my REG review, I went through all MCQ's again and marked every one that I got wrong or that I thought I could have very easily gotten wrong. I printed all of these with the intent of going over them and writing additional notes, if needed. Ended up only having time to get through about 2/3 of them on the morning of the exam, but it was a good quick review. I also print many of the SIMS to also review right before the exam. (Have to take screen shots)
When is your REG exam scheduled?

REG - 91 (11/12/12)November 21, 2012 at 5:12 am #388174AnonymousInactiveHi everyone! I will be taking REG in January (my first CPA exam!) and have a quick question for anyone more familiar with the structure and content of the test. My future employer provided me with the Becker materials and I have finished all sections except R-4. My question is how heavily ‘Ethics and Professional Responsibilities in Tax Services' is typically tested. They mentioned in the lecture that there probably wouldn't be more than a few related questions on the exam… however, I see elsewhere that “Ethics, professional, and legal responsibilities” comprises between 15-19% of the test. So I'm wondering how much time I should spend on this section. The lecture really doesn't seem helpful (I don't think it's an efficient use of my time only to be told what to highlight in the text).
I'm juggling studying for REG with graduate school and a job, so I would like to avoid spending hours going through this 30 page section if it isn't generally tested.
Thanks for any responses and good luck with your studying!

The business law stuff is very rough to to get through. My biggest struggle with it is that I feel like there is so much material yet it's only 17-21% of the exam.
Can anyone give insight on what particularly in law I should focus on more? Just to narrow it down a bit?
