I know I don't like the business law questions. Like you I pick the second best one and then I have to sit down and figure out why the other is a better answer. At least if we figure out the logic why its a better question than in the exam we won't fall into the same trap. At least i hope so.

I don't think in the exam they will be this picky but you never know.

    To those using Becker:

At the start of R5, it says that 17-21% of the exam is on BLAW. Does this mean R1-R4 is supposed to represent 80% of the exam or am I misreading this?

Nitpicking is the beauty of the CPA exams, the least important aspect of your review might end up in determining your fate, doing more questions on a topic will definitely deepen your understanding. You also need to find some one with same CPA interest to discuss some of these topics. Talking to a CPA candidate or a CPA on phone on certain topics might deepen your understanding on a topic.

Sometimes reading over and over again for something you just dont understand becomes really frustrating.

I Think the best way to get these things locked down is actually discussing the question we have issues with. Someone is bound to have a better way of explaining the right answer.

I agree- somethings you can read and re-read until the cows come home and it still doesn't stick LOL

JSK11 I am pretty sure the exam is made up as shown below.

    Ethics and Legal Responsibilities (15-19%)

    Business Law (17-21%)

    Federal Tax Process (11-15%)

    Taxation on Property Transactions (12-16%)

    Taxation on Individuals (13-19%)

    Taxation on Entities (18-24%)

Business law is 17-21% the other topic that isn't tax related but law driven are Ethics and Legal Responsibilities. So together makes up 40% ish

    That's my understanding

    insiyah24,

Okay thank you! Sounds like a 60/40 split then between the first half of becker and the second half. I get confused when they say the topics and their %'s because a lot of time there is overlap.

Ok take two on partnership interest….If I understand this correctly, the inside basis is the partners share of the value of assets in the hands of the partnership. The outside basis is the value of the partners interest in the partnership itself. So if this is correct…then I would need to use the outside basis when determining the gain or loss when liquidating the partnership and ignore the inside basis. Is this correct??? Thanks!
