MemberHey everyone, I am taking REG on October 11. I just finished with R1 and R2 on Becker and I feel like there are a lot of memorization of rules and there's no logic behind anything. I passed FAR and had no trouble studying the material and everything seemed to make sense. I was wondering what you all think the best way to studying REG would be? And also for people who have used Wiley Test Bank, how helpful is it? I'm considering purchasing it.

Member@Mehendra, I've taken the “making my own flashcard” approach to REG. I just finished watching all of the Becker lectures and making up my own flashcards. Regarding the number of flashcards – I'll just say it's not pretty. But it made me realize a few things. One, regardless of what people may think about Tim and Peter, just reading the Becker book does not give you nearly as good an understanding of the material compared to if you actually listen to those two. They have small clarifies that help you comprehend the material in the book. So not only do you actively listen by highlighting and underlining, but by stopping and starting the lectures to make your own notes/flashcards, you get a much better understanding of the material. Putting pen to paper is a huge help for me.
On each flashcard I put a little note for classifying the material I put on the flashcard. Obviously there are a ton of topics and subtopics on this exam and it is incredibly piece-meal. However, when I started putting little topics on the cards, it helped and will help me organize my thoughts when I start going through the cards. For example, in the business law section, one of the topics is the creation of a contract. There are 3 elements (or 4 depending on how you look at it) of a legally enforceable contract. Instead of having just the general topic of “Elements of a contract,” I broke it up into the 3 elements as subtopics so I can now easily see all of my notecards that refer to the element of “offer” as well as being an element of a contract in general. For me, a huge part of this exam is organization and keeping things straight in my head. This seems to be a good way for me to do it. But as a lot of people will tell you, you have to figure out what works best for you.
Good luck!

MemberHey guys!
I have a question about statue of limitation. If you don't file your tax for 10 years, would that fall under the general of 3 years, 25% understatement of gross income which would be six years or would it be under fraud and false returns which would not have no limitation? I am leaning towards it is included in fraud meaning there is no limit, but I feel like it could be any of them.
Also for alimony. I think I know the answer to this one but the way Becker describes it, it doesn't come across that way. It says in Becker that alimony must stop when spouses get married. Basically when I read it, it sounded like they were saying that if either the person paying or the person receiving the payment got married the alimony payment had to stop. But to me that doesn't make sense. There would be more getting married to get out of paying alimony and it wouldn't be fair to the person who was suppose to receive the alimony. Did I just understand it wrong or is it true that alimony stops when either person gets married?
Thanks

Member@svwCPA72…..As far as the alimony goes, it stops when either the party paying or the party receiving dies or if the recipient remarries.
For the statute of limitations, the statute of limitations does not apply for failing to file for 10 years. In essence because the return was never filed, the clock doesn't start ticking.

MemberI thought I read this for Statue of Limitations
3 years after later of due date or filing date
6 years if total income is understated 25% or more
Unlimited for tax fraud or Non-filing of the return.
For Alimony – Skrier Stated it correctly.
If spouse A is paying Spouse B alimony. The Alimony will terminate if Spouse B :-
1. Remarries
2. Dies
FAR 05/27/14; 786/110 - Done !

For statue of limitations that is exactly what I thoughts. So would that still mean the time hasn't started yet until they are filed? So they would still fall under the general 1?
Thanks with the alimony question that is what I thought the answer was but Becker was confusing me.
