InactiveI still have access to the WTB until October, but I didn't use it for BEC or REG (currently studying) because like how many said it's gone downhill. I'm happy with the Ninja MCQs.
I AM curious however how representative the REG Sims in Ninja are to the actual exam. Any input is welcome!

MemberHello everyone that's in this study group. It's nice to see quite a few similar faces from the Q2 FAR study group. I am scheduled to take REG on August 30th and it will be my last exam before I start at a Big 4 firm right after Labor Day.
If this is your first, your last, or somewhere in between, I hope you all are studying hard and doing well. Best of luck to everyone and for those who have REG as their last exam, let's KILL it!

ParticipantHey Spartan! Good to see you too. Welcome to the group, just really getting rolling myself, same test date. Four weeks to go and I admit I'm slacking a little bit more than I should be but I'm finally in full gear. Good luck on your last exam! Killl Kill Kill!

ParticipantOh ya, update on the Ninja MCQs. LOVE EM. The dashboard is awesome, love the drill down detail (goes all the way down to the sub sub topics), the trending analysis. It's one fine piece of work.

InactiveI'm taking it in a week. This will be my fourth attempt so I will show no mercy.

InactiveI'm done with R1/R2 (Becker) lectures, homework, sims…I will revisit the sims/progress tests during review week.
Becker R3/B4 are beast mode. I'm done with the lectures…going to knock out the homework/sims the next two days. I may just have the Corporate Tax & Property Tax lecture on a blue tooth loop in my car for the next two weeks.
Becker R5 lecture done. Homework this week. This is definitely a flash cards review the week of the exam chapter…
Becker R6 lecture done.
Becker R7 lecture tomorrow night…
Becker R8 lecture Tuesday night…going to use the same strategy for R5-R8…
Here is my strategy to pass REG in 20 days (I passed AUD with a 95 in 16 days). Watched the R1-R8 lectures all the way through…one chapter each day (some info will stick), identify the highly tested material during the lectures, review/practice the highly tested material daily (90 MCQs/4 SIMS per day), PRACTICE EXAM, identify your weaknesses and review, PRACTICE EXAM, polish weaknesses, review again and see what sticks.
I realize I could be wrong and set myself up for a retake with this strategy (for my remaining 3 exams)…but I am a firm believer the CPA exam is more of a mental hurdle than testing your skills as an accountant…It throws a ton of information at you…naturally there are going to be areas you are uncomfortable with…the real “trick” the examiners play is to get you bogged down on one area so you spend the better part of one full day on a topic…when the actual number of questions on that topic may not be “material” in the first place…also, overlapping the studying is kind of like school again ( I am through FAR 1-7 Lectures and BEC 1-2 Lectures)
so my theory is sit through “class”, then test your instinct by completing the homework/SIMS, know what topics where your instinct is wrong, change your thinking on those topics, then trust you final instinct during the exam …piece of cake…we got this…if not, we got this in Quarter 4 lol
Study Time per Week = 4 hours each week night / 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday
Billable Hours per Week = 40
Social Life = similar to tax season…”76 Days and Pass the CPA exam” (that's what I'll call the book if it actually make this happen)…I'm a 76ers fan too so that actually has a nice ring to it
Good luck everyone!

InactiveHi everyone, I am joining this group. Just got my passing score for FAR this Saturday and now will start with Reg this coming week. I am using Becker and I have the 2014 Reg book but I got it before May 2014 changes. Shld I get a new Reg book or would the summary of changes that Becker has on their website be sufficient?

MemberAnyone that just failed want to make predictions about their score report? I predict weaker in SIMS and comparable on MCQ. I don't know how it breaks down the topics, but I predict stronger in Business Law, weaker in individual tax, comparable in corporate tax. I don't put too much faith in the score reports, but since I'm not studying again for a while–just finding something interesting to discuss after my fail. 🙂
CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)

Personally, No I do not think you need the new REG book. Most of the changes are really things that will not be tested like the tax tables, which they should give you if they ask a question like that. Or, things like the standard deduction changed and the % for medical expenses, which I think are minor.
Anyway, I need help in getting studying strategies from everyone. With a wife and two kids, time is limited. How many weeks do you give yourself? How many times do you go through the MCQs, etc. How many sections do you schedule at one time for NTS? I have becker and I just bought NINJA notes and audio. I have felt that just going through MCQs is not sufficient enough for me. So maybe just going through NINJA notes over and over to get down concepts would be more efficient instead of trying to memorize the questions.
AUD - 49, 66, 72, 77!!

InactiveI took this exam in January and got a 74. I'm retaking next week Monday (8/11). I just bought NINJA MCQ and plan to hammer those out this week whenever I have free time use Saturday to do SIMs and Sunday to use Becker to study what the adaptive learning considers I am weak on. Then final review of materials on Monday before the exam at 1pm. Can't wait for this week to be over and it has barely started!

ParticipantGood luck CPAwi88! I'm testing on the 15th and I'm in panic mode. Still trying to get through the last of my tax lessons and I really need a full week of review. I've been diligently going back every week and re-reading all of my notes but I just don't know if it's enough. I am averaging anywhere from 80's, 70's, 60's, and some 90's and 50's in Ninja MCQ and that is only “new” questions each time. It's so weird how I can be so up and down on scores. I hope that's normal.
REG 8/15/14 (73); 11/13/14 (82)-expired 🙁
AUD 5/30/15 (80)
BEC 11/28/15 (75)
FAR 7/30/16Studying with CPAexcel and Ninja notes/MCQ's/Flashcards

InactiveThanks @Tax lady!! Hopefully once you get through the NINJA and reach the adaptive learning phase, then it will point you in the direction you need to focus your review on. Check out the progress reports and see what areas you are weaker on and I would focus on those more than others during your review.. that is what I did for BEC and ended up passing with an 80.

Participant@2014 CPA, it's also worth mentioning that the e-book / lectures in the Becker software DOES update. I take all of my notes when I'm using it anyway, so I figured ordering a physical copy of the updated book would be useless.
R1 done. R2 done. Looked at R3 and R4 and said, “lol no.” Skipped to R6. Contracts done! Want to finish just about everything else tonight. Business law isn't bad at all so far.
