MamabearMember@Amay–I'm right there with you. I have Corporate Tax left to complete and then I will have gone through all the tax questions in the Ninja MCQ one time. I cannot believe there are 69 SIMS for REG in the Ninja MCQ. Getting through all of those is going to be a tough one.
CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)

FAR (04/12/14) 81

KimboroniMemberThanks, guys, that helps a lot. My Wiley book has problems for both the 2012 and 2013 tax years, and so the idea of being tested on 2014 numbers instead of these other years was making my head spin a bit! I'll mostly just focus on the concepts.
AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)Disclaimer: My ninja avatar is not meant to imply that I have any affiliation with this site other than being a forum member. That's a pic of a T-shirt that my daughter gave me for my birthday. 🙂

AnonymousInactiveSo commercial paper is the absolute worst… that is all :-/

AnonymousInactiveCommerical Paper isn't that bad.
True a lot of people have issues with it but if you spent the time to really read the question and pick up on the “tricky” words, you can do very well in those questions in the Exam.
It just takes time and patience to learn that chapter 🙂

MamabearMemberAlright people. I have to say that my motivation for REG is diminishing. I could care less about any of this material. BOR-RING! I try to listen to the Ninja Audio in the car and honestly I just start zoning whenever there is a calculation or a list (Pre-Ace, etc). I think I'm going to have to use the Audio more for business law because the tax stuff is hard to follow (for me) without looking at my notes. I was amazingly disciplined with my AUD retake–flashcards everyday at lunch, Audio every chance I had alone in the car, MCQs nonstop, rewriting notes, etc. I dwindled a little bit with FAR–only have the flashcards, Audio in the car when I could, but still not as often as AUD, didn't rewrite notes. I think knowing I passed that one without the extra effort is giving me false hope on passing REG. Don't get me wrong–I busted my tail for FAR, but I just didn't utilize every single break I had at work and I didn't utilize all the additional materials I had to work with, which to me means less effort. I'm almost done with my first round of tax and my averages aren't great, but it's what is to be expected of a first round. Now to pick it up a bit and try to get through b-law without clawing my eyes out. This is the first section where none of the material pertains to my job so I am having a hard time caring about learning it. I just keep telling myself–YOU HAVE TO PASS!! over and over and over to keep on going. Anybody else feeling like this??

yassyMember@Mamabear I am definitely feeling like that. I feel so burnt out from studying for so long but I HAVE to pass this one. I NEED for this to be over! And that is what I keep telling myself when I feel too sick of studying. My averages right now are bad which is scaring me. Like low 70's, 🙁

MamabearMember@yassy–are you using Ninja MCQ? I hear that Ninja is tougher than Wiley and 70s are good grades for Ninja. I'm only in the 50s right now, but I'm using the mCQ to learn, not to test my knowledge. I'm cool withthe 50s for now. I just hate this material so much.

yassyMember@Mamabear I am using Ninja MCQ's. That is quite a relief to hear I don't have to be as hard on myself about my scores 🙂
I don't mind the tax part of the material, but the Business Law is just so painfully boring to study!

LaComptableParticipantSo for the adjustments – being that educator expenses and tuition and fees are not allowed as adjustments to gross income in 2014, can we expect that they will not be tested? I was going to just skip these portions of the Becker text and was wondering if there is any possibility that they could still be tested. What are you all doing?

AmayMemberI have the same question ^^^. Some of my Becker material says “(expired 12/31/13)” yet there is no mention of that in the lecture. I am assuming we have to know this stuff anyway? Would love it if Jeff could chime in on this!
Examples:
Educator Expenses
Tuition and Fee Deduction
Work Opportunity Credit
BEC: 73, 81
AUD: 85
FAR: 71, 77
REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂

AnonymousInactive@Kenada I know, but just so boring.. I'm excited for Tax if that's any indication how much I dislike Blaw :-)))

LaComptableParticipant@Amay – the interesting thing is that in the front of the R1 chapter (Becker materials), where the Adjustments are listed in the diagram on the first and second page, it still lists Educator Expenses and Tuition and Fees as allowable adjustments. I was listening to 2014 Ninja Audio this morning and it still says teacher expenses are deductions to arrive at AGI. In doing some digging last night, these deductions did in fact expire in 2013 and don't appear to have been renewed.
I think the thing that worries me is, can the exam throw us a curveball question related to this area. For instance, we might be given a set of facts and asked to calculate AGI. The facts might state that John Doe is a teacher and spent $250 on qualified teacher expenses. I assume we would not deduct these from gross income in the exam…

LaComptableParticipant@Mamabear, I hear you on the tax material. It's pretty hard to listen to because it's so dry. I end up rewinding a lot because it's hard to stay focused – my mind wanders around. I think one thing that really helps me is to repeat what Jeff is saying, out loud, when I'm having trouble paying attention. It helps me listen more actively.
