Dmars: I'm with ya! I don't want to mess around with this silliness any longer than I have to. If there is an exam worth going overkill on I'd have to say that REG is the one (at least for me). Good luck knocking out your last one!

    MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?

I've finally figured out my biggest problem with REG…the vocabulary! I'm tired of having to look up terms just to understand the questions. *sigh*

I know. I'm hoping a lot of that will come back to me from school. Probably just a pipe dream.

Ya Business Law was hard for me at first but after going through it a few times it started making sense. Its all wordy but it does have a pattern and its basically reading the question carefully. Just like AUD.

Oh heck. AUD's trickiness was such a pain. Thanks for the heads up on that! Reminding myself to RTMFQ and RATMFA!!! 🙂

I'm really struggling with working problems and listening to audio when I know that some of the tested numbers will change on 7/1. It makes it hard for me to feel comfortable memorizing anything.

I also wanted to mention for anyone else reading that Mamabear posted a link of the tax updates, and it's on page 2 of this thread, about 1/3 of the way down:

ctrl+F search for forbes once you're on page 2

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Disclaimer: My ninja avatar is not meant to imply that I have any affiliation with this site other than being a forum member. That's a pic of a T-shirt that my daughter gave me for my birthday. 🙂

In working through a lot of the problems, I'm not sure that memorizing the numbers for a lot of the threshholds is going to be a priority. The advice of others, including Jeff, is to focus on the stuff that doesn't change like the concepts because they would have to change a lot of questions on the test each year to include the new numbers. We'll probably still get tested on stuff that does change, but it shouldn't show up as heavily in the number of questions we get.

The REG struggle is real. Motivation to study is minimal. I need to get back into a routine. Trying to avoid coffee shops after works has caused me to fall behind, sooooo … coffee shops it is. Just venting. Carry on. Happy studying!

to reiterate what Mamabear posted – I watched Roger's REG intro video where he mentions not to focus on the numbers that change every year. That was a big relief for me!

Just came across this beauuuutifully worded paragraph of the tax code I thought you all might find amusing 🙂

    (C) Allocation formula

If a portion of the taxpayer’s dwelling unit used for the purposes described in subparagraph (A) is not used exclusively for those purposes, the amount of the expenses attributable to that portion shall not exceed an amount which bears the same ratio to the total amount of the items allocable to such portion as the number of hours the portion is used for such purposes bears to the number of hours the portion is available for use.

    FAR 75 (8/21/13)
    AUD 72 (10/29/13) 74 (2/12/14) 84! (04/01/14)
    BEC 75 (11/27/13)
    REG 72 (05/29/14) 74 (07/10/14) 86 and DONE! (10/02/14)

CPA Excel seems to go overkill on the subject matter. Anyone else feel this way? It's taking me forever to get through each section because each one has a tiny scroll bar! That's how I measure the length of each section, by how small the scroll bar is once I open a section, lol. I could get through an AUD or FAR section in about 20-30 minutes, but REG is taking me 45-60 minutes. Then when I'm done and look back, there wasn't even that much pertinent information given.

    FAR: 4/19/2014 - 85!
    AUD: 5/27/2014 - 90!
    REG: 7/18/2014 - 81!
    BEC: 8/13/2014 - 84!

    4 up, 4 down, in 4 months.

    Licensed 9/22 in NC.

28 days 13 hours and 28 minutes until my first (and hopefully last) encounter with REG. I wish I could say I was on track to crushing it, but I got almost zero studying in this week with late nights at work and way too many birthdays/family events. As much as I know this could be detrimental, it's time to pull out the late night study sessions for a bit in order to catch up.

Mammabear, almost done going through individual tax! I need to get to Corp tax ASAP so I can start working the MCQs!

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂
