The first practice exam from Becker is not at all practical. They give you one practice test which should be similar to the one you will see and the other one is entirely too difficult. Practice test 2 is the test you are more likely to see, but I am with you, I didn't do that well on that test either.

I am acing all my progress tests, and I hope it isn't just because I am memorizing the questions. I am taking REG on Monday and I don't feel like I am ready for it the way i was AUD.

    AUD 5/9/13 - 96
    REG 7/29/13 - 78
    BEC 11/25/13 - 83
    FAR 7/1/2014 - 90

    DONE!

Will I be expected to know the 2013 tax rules when taking the exam this week, for example I have been studying that the gift tax exemption is $13000 per year per donee, but I have seen that the exemption has been raised to $14000 for 2013 which would be correct on the exam?

@ Sloth2301 you need to know the new rules.. 14,000 would be the correct amount on the test. New tax rules came into effect starting july 2013 .

From reading these posts and my materials, I know that we are most likely not expected to know phaseouts since that really doesn't test application, just memorization.

However, I'm using Becker and I remember Tim saying that just remember 1 certain phaseout, but I haven't been able to find it again. Does anyone know what that one phaseout he mentioned?

@Sloth2301: Also, in regards to your question about which year's tax rules to know, I took the test earlier this month and was pretty worried about whether I should be updating the numbers in the book to reflect the new amounts, so I kind of reviewed which numbers changed and which didn't to be generally familiar. When it came to test day though, on most questions that have had a change, like the gift tax exemption that you mentioned for example, they would just tell you the number to use in the question (and it was often not even 2012 or 2013's amount, just some number), and you go from there using that number. All tests could be different I suppose, but I wouldn't spend too much time memorizing the new numbers.

Haven't been on here for awhile but have been studying REG on and off since May! I got a FT job so now it's a HUGE struggle. I try and study before my manager gets in… then on and off during the day (I work “throughout” my hour lunch so whatever :P)

I get home and hang with my feathered child for 2 hours then try and study… so so so hard.

    AUD: 84

    BEC: 79
    FAR: 83
