@ LSNYC , I feel like we have similar experiences based on your signature, just wondering what went wrong when you took REG last testing window? I am taking REG for the first time in 2 weeks and really want to pass on my first try since im due in Oct and the thought of having to sit for REG in my 9th month doesnt sound like a good idea 🙂 just hoping I could learn from your last experience and what your doing different this time..

CPAwanabe – Congrats on the baby! What amazing news! They will be born to a CPA!

I thought my REG exam was pretty fair, my MCQ were very representative of what i had seen and studied. My SIMs were hard but not impossible. I think my major down fall was one SIM. It was a topic i should have known it should have been something i knew inside and out and i didn't. I honestly think that's was killed me. The SIMs were MUCH harder for me then the MCQ I didn't really find the MCQ to be that bad. They were mostly on topics i studied and reviewed.

So my advice would be don't ignore the topics that seem easy. They could come up and be tricky and trick you out of a few extra points. I have restudied in pretty much the same way i studied the first time around and a little more practice on the SIMs.

My score report said i was comparable on all section except individual tax and SIMs. But take that for what its worth, i try not to put a lot of stock in the score reports.

Good luck you can do this i have faith in you!

I am confused by the IRS failure to file and failure to pay penalties running concurrently. Becker (and the IRS site) say the failure to file penalty of 5%/month (or fraction of a month) is REDUCED by the failure to pay penalty of .5% per month (or fraction of a month), for a net of 4.5%. So if you failure to FILE you actually end up paying MORE than if you FAIL TO FILE AND ALSO FAIL TO PAY… ? That doesn't make logical sense to me. Am I just thinking about this the wrong way? Also, the 1% interest on late payments is independent of these other two things, correct?

    DJN- here's how I read it….

Failure to File- 5% of the amount due per month. Not to exceed 25% of the amount due.

Failure to Pay- 1/2 of 1% per up to a maximum of 25% of the unpaid tax.

If the person both fails to pay and fails to file the failure to file penalty is reduced by the amount of the failure to pay.

So if the fail to do both it's a higher penalty but is reduced slightly because the gov't is making 2 fees off that one filer.

    Does that make sense??

Hopeful this time around.... Back after a 2 year break!!

    BEC - Feb 2013 78!!
    FAR - May 2013 76!!
    REG - 70! 71! 80!!
    AUD - Oct 2013 79!!

    FINALLY DONE!!

@Wendy – So the taxpayer would still end up paying 5% TOTAL, it's just that the failure to file penalty would become a net of 4.5% (5% – .5%) and the the failure to file would still be .5%… yes?

Of all the crazy things in REG I don't know why THIS is the one that boggles my mind, LOL!
