InactiveHow do you guys recover from a bad day? I took 3 weeks off work to study and I have some days like yesterday, where I just don't get one thing done. I have some days where I don't get as much done as I would like. (Say only 100 MCQ and 1 or 2 chapters.)
Whenever I have days like that getting close to exam day really starts to deflate me and make me feel like i've failed already. Any tips on how to power through and stay motivated after having an off day?

Member@CPAforeigner First thing I would do, is edit my information on the exam dates and take away the “expires July 2014” because your attitude needs to be “This doesn't apply to me. I will be done by then.” On the days that you are deflated – Wow, we all get there – Big Time. Have realistic expectations and goals. Don't feel deflated, do some studies in areas that you have already reviewed and feel strong in – if you do great on those questions, it gives you strength to move on and forward (think to yourself “Hey! I know that material!”). Then tackle the new/difficult stuff.
Get up and go for a walk. Do something physical that gives you a change of scenery and energizes you. What makes you laugh? What makes you enjoy life? Make a song list that inspires you between breaks or prepares you to tackle your studies. You only have 2 more exams to go and you HAVE studied for them, so you're almost at the end of the finish line. You just have to make it over that last part of the mountain. Look around you, you are not alone. Don't think to yourself, “I can't do this, I'm going to fail.” Write out a post it note and put it one your laptop/computer and have it say “I am going to do this today.” Or something else that inspires you! Write out your name on a piece of paper and put the initials CPA behind it. Because that IS what you will be doing in the future. If you miss half a day of studies, don't spend the other half beating yourself up – that accomplishes nothing. At least you can get half a day of work done!! I've surfed these boards for support when I was struggling and it helped to see that I was not alone, and you are definitely not.
Hope this helps!!

Member@Silliepanda – Feel better and kick this exams a$$!
I pushed my exam back to the 22nd, just one week, but work has been so crazy and night i get home and fall right to sleep. It horrible. I am trying to get a full day in today between 6-8 hours. Tomorrow i need to work probably about 4-5 hours so i am hoping i can get a few hours in tomorrow night. After Wednesday our major deadline will have passed so i should be able to get a lot of studying in after that and will give me 10 full days for full review and hopefully a perfect 75!
A - 61, 91!!
B - 78!
F - 76!!!
R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!Finally done!
This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

Member@silliepanda I feel so sorry for you!! The stress from these exams is tough. You have beaten this before and you CAN do this again!! Just take care of yourself in the process. I admire your drive and determination!! 🙂
@Lsync I'm thinking of moving my test back too. I don't know yet… I will just keep on moving and see how far and how confident I feel going forward. I just need to keep practicing, practicing, practicing and writing. Good Luck on getting through your project at work so you can move forward with a clear mind!!!
Ok, back to notes and questions for me!!! (My hand is killing me!!)

ParticipantQuestion. You have two corporate entities in a parent-sub relationship reporting on a consolidated basis. The parent owns 85% of the sub. The parent has income of $100,000 and the sub has income of $90,000. What are they reporting as their consolidated NI, $190,000?

MemberHey guys so I'm feeling a little weird so far. I've gotten through R1 and R2. I don't feel like I can memorize all the numbers for the phase-outs and things like that. But when I go through the MCQ I see that for Becker you don't really need to know that stuff. So on one hand I'm doing really well on the questions, but on the other, I feel like there's so much that I don't know. Do you guys have any opinions on this topic?
