@Jam05…I'm also using 2012 Becker material. Honestly, I think the main numbers that have changed that you should focus on are Section 179 (500,000 max reduced dollar for dollar if over 2,000,000 which is up from 125,000 and 500,000), 10% of AGI for medical deduction instead of 7.5% unless you are 65 or older (then it remains at 7.5%), gift tax exclusion up to $14,000 from $13,000 per person.

These are the main ones that I have been focused on. Does anyone else have big ones that they think we should know?

@Jam05 and @Kels417 I used the Becker 2012 to study for this section. My advice to you, is to make sure that you have the updates from Becker – there is some information that they have on a link to the update to the 2012 book – like the employee stock option and the alimony recapture. What I did, was to get the 2012 updates, make sure I knew them and then looked at the updates to the 2013 Becker text book – those number changes are pretty much the same pages. I added them in Red Ink so that they would stand out to me and when I reviewed my book, I had the accurate numbers.

It will update the lifetime gift amount to 5,250,000 and the lifetime credit, the annual exclusion, the amount for blind and over 65, the additional amount for an IRA contribution, etc. Lots of little pieces that you may get asked on and by updating the numbers, one or two may automatically become recalled during the exam!!

    Good Luck!!

kels417 – I do like Gleim as a supplement and i do find it more difficult. I am doing 50% to 70% in them. But I think its good as it helps me feel how i am really doing with REG.

Everyone prepares differently and I am more the type the needs to do the questions, get them wrong and see why i did them wrong. If i get them right i make sure i got it right because i know why its right.

I normally do really bad avg when i start the practice sessions… a few days before the exam thats when i want to be getting 80 to 90's

    FAR 05/27/14; 786/110 - Done !

@kels417 stated that the medical deduction is now 10% AGI instead of 7.5%.. Does that mean that there is no longer a 2.5% adjustment when calculating AMT?

Well – I was warned about the REG sims… boy, were those warnings warranted. I seemed very prepared for the MCQ, but got tossed around a few times by the sims.

    B - (08/29/2013) Passed
    A - (07/02/2013) Passed
    R - (10/17/2013) 73 - Rematch
    F - (05/29/2013) Passed

Are there any examples of SIMS that you can remember? I'm taking the test on Friday so anything helps! Thanks
