ParticipantI am all screwed up with taxation but i'm getting better at it now. It's just I don't have any tax experience, so it's all new! For the AMT, there is only one way to calculate this correct? regular taxable income +- adjustments + preferences = AMT taxable income * AMT tax rate= AMT tax? In the adjustments, I'm subtracting out the standard and personal exemptions a well. Also, most of the questions in the Wiley test bank seem to revolve around understanding credits and deductions. I have not seen any questions involving phase out ranges yet.
FAR - 93
REG - 87
BEC - 84!!!!
AUD - 99!!!!!! CPA exam complete.December 3, 2013 at 5:07 pm #486012Kenada
MemberNYC –
For AMT Individuals yes you remove the std deduction if that was what was selected. Yes you remove the personal exemption as well.
The Whole idea about AMT is removing the small credits/deductions and instead giving you one big deduction amount.
See below – this should help you.
PANIC TIMME (ADJUSTMENTS FOR AMT)
P- PASSIVE ACTIVITY LOSS
A – ACCELERATED DEPRECIATION
N – NET OPERATING LOSS OF INDIVIDUALS
I – INSTALLMENT INCOME OF DEALER
C – CONTRACTS (PERCENTAGE VERSUS COMPLETED CONTRACT)
T – TAX DEDUCTIONS
I – INTEREST DEDUCTIONS ON SOME HOME EQUITY LOANS
M – MEDICAL DEDUCTIONS (THAT **don't** EXCEED 10 PERCENT AGI) * Correction per Jeff.
M – MISC DEDUCTIONS
E – EXEMPTIONS AND STANDARD DEDUCTION
FAR 05/27/14; 786/110 - Done !

MemberI'm taking REG on Jan. 4 right before busy season and then AUD on Jan. 27th in the midst of it all (can't help it, NTS will expire on the 30th).
Anyone have any advice on what to drink/eat so I can stay awake long enough to study a good 3-4 hours?
Work is pretty draining…
BEC (July 2013)
FAR (OCT 2013)
REG (NOV 2013)
AUD (JAN 2014)The CPA Exam is an opponent that not even the Fellowship of the Ring would want to come across.
I have a long...long...journey ahead of me.

MemberHello all! Start studying this week for the exam to take it in late January/early February before busy season really revs up. My Becker online class actually starts Monday, but I was going to start reading and contemplate getting the Ninja stuff to supplement. I do partnership and s-corporate taxes at work- hoping that gives me a leg up on this exam.
@CPAMommy – I recognize you from the last round on the AUD forum- you were always super helpful and quick with the answers – so happy to see you here too!! Do you have your audit score back? As I recall you weren't that confident. I just took the test this past Monday and totally feel the same. I failed it once already and walked out with the same confidence of my performance from the first time. Ugh!
@Jessica8926 – Is it possible they have that loss and then other gains to net it against? Could you maybe post the exact question, as there maybe a nuance we are both missing? I know its a simulation so it maybe hard to post.
@MJP – The REG book for Becker is much smaller than the FAR book for Becker – so there probably is a difference in size, even between companies. I used self-study for Becker on BEC, and passed. This is my first attempt at REG, and I am using online Becker. I found the online version kept me on top of things better than the self-study (also used online for AUD), although they are very similar- one is more structured in pacing than the other. Good luck!
AUD 7/30/12 73; 12/2/13 85
BEC 7/19/13 81
REG 8/2/14 83
