    Sitting for REG on 2/3/14

Been using WTB and the 2013 books. Is there a good source of information on differences between 2013 and 2014 tests and study materials?

I have a quick question about a Becker Simulation. Becker is saying a $15,000 loss is included on a personal tax return for short term capital loss on the sale of land. I cannot find anywhere in the REG textbook that says anything about personal losses on the sale of land that will allow the loss to be recorded on an individuals taxes. I know the $3,000 maximum deduction for a net capital loss so thats what I thought they would be allowed to take. Can anyone explain why an individual can deduct the total $15,000 loss from the sale of short term land? Thanks!

    AUD - 69, 77
    REG - 74, 81
    FAR - 75!
    BEC - 71, 82

    IL candidate!

    Finally done (5/24/16)!! Yahooooooo!

This is from the becker website which is open to the public as I just Googled it and found it.

It covers all the updates you need to know for the Jan 2014 exam. You can help supplement this with your Wiley book easily.

I had the most interesting test ever. Out of 12 chapters major focus was on 3 chapters. All I can say is know your basics follow the CCSO I could not have predicted this test. Do as many mcqs as possible on taxation and read your law.

Just recieved Becker text book and I will be doing the self-study. First time Becker user. For FAR, I used Gliem and supplemented with WTB. Anyone have good experience so far with Becker self study for REG? The one thing I noticed is the book Becker provides seems smaller compared to this gigantic text book Gleim provides for FAR.

    FAR- PASSED (11/13)
    REG- PASSED (2/14)
    BEC- PASSED (5/14)
    AUD- PASSED (8/14)

If it's important to you, you will find a way. If it isn't, you will find an excuse.

I am all screwed up with taxation but i'm getting better at it now. It's just I don't have any tax experience, so it's all new! For the AMT, there is only one way to calculate this correct? regular taxable income +- adjustments + preferences = AMT taxable income * AMT tax rate= AMT tax? In the adjustments, I'm subtracting out the standard and personal exemptions a well. Also, most of the questions in the Wiley test bank seem to revolve around understanding credits and deductions. I have not seen any questions involving phase out ranges yet.

    FAR - 93
    REG - 87
    BEC - 84!!!!
AUD - 99!!!!!! CPA exam complete.
