    Indeed, IRC research questions are so time consuming and confusing to me. Out of all exams taken so far I found AUD research questions the easiest. I was aiming to take the REG on 2/28 as well, but fell off track, will take in in early April. Good luck !

    FAR - 82
    AUD - 71, 83
    REG- 75

    Yes, I am having a hard time with those as well. I don't really know how to feel about it but I have heard that research answers count for less points than the other SIM answers. Whether that's true or not, I don't even want to waste the time stressing about it! I realize it could be “easy points” but if it's too hard to find, then it seems like a waste instead of potentially getting some right answers on one of the other SIMS.

    I am scheduled for REG on Saturday and I am way stressed. I feel pretty comfortable with the multiple choice but the SIMS…especially on corporate tax – yikes. I actually feel very comfortable with individual tax, even the SIMS, and I feel comfortable with business law in general, but my downfall is definitely the corporate/partnership tax. And even some estate tax rules. Anyone have any advice for retaining the information or some study tricks? Obviously since I am in my last 3 days of preparing, I'm not really sure what would be the best use of my time.

    I have listened to Ninja Audio constantly, re-written all the Ninja notes (once through), and done so many MCQ's in Becker I am so tired of them. I have access to the Wiley test bank since I purchased the 10 point combo from Ninja, should I focus on just doing those questions and SIMS for the next 3 days now?

    I had trouble with research questions as well when I simply used the Search option but learned that using the Advanced Search option makes it a lot easier. Hope that helps.

    I'm scheduled for Friday, and I go through waves of panic and confidence. While doing MCQ's, I realize how much stuff I haven't perfected, or I remember slightly from when I started studying a month and a half ago. Aghhh! I'm really afraid I'm going to make a stupid mistake on Friday and completely skip important part of a question.

    I'm looking forward to the weekend, since I'm giving myself two weeks before I jump into my next section.

    R - *77*(02/'13)-Becker & NINJA

    DONE, DONE, AND DONE.

    Helllo Everyone – I'm taking my REG exam on the 28th for the 2nd time… last time and this time i'm using Becker. I was thinking to get WIley Test bank. Would you guys recommend that? Will they explain concepts differently?

    First of all, with the exam being so soon for you, I wouldn't recommend taking on another review package–however, if you are studying full time it may work after all.

    I had Becker–used it twice for REG and failed both times. I bought the Wiley test bank in December for my third (and hopefully FINAL) attempt at REG. The Wiley test bank has an incredible amount of GREAT questions. I have to say they are much more difficult than the Becker questions and cover a lot of topics that I don't remember being covered in Becker. I have learned A LOT more from the Wiley questions than I thought I would. I already had the Ninja notes and audio and realized that the notes/audio help reinforce some of the topics you will see in the Wiley MCQs.

    If you pair the Wiley test bank with the Ninja notes–you're in for a great review. Again, up to you whether you want to take on the new review package so close to your exam. For me, Becker didn't work in REG, so I'm hoping this approach will work on Sunday when I face REG for the third time. 🙂

    BEST of Luck!!!

    Guys, I need some help.My understanding is that;

    If property is SOLD to Partnership by a partner:

    If p/s interest more than 50% = zero gain/loss

    Please confirm:

    if p/s interest less than 50% = recognize the realized gain/loss?

    And

    What is the rule for SELLING property to Corp?

    Thanks a bunch!

    Thanks @MissCPA.

    @RegMomCPA I have actually given up on getting whatever fraction of the score the research sim is worth. Good luck tomorrow!

    @bhmnrhpsdy I have tried the advanced search, it worked great for audit but it is not helping me with REG.

    I just attended the Becker final review live class and I'm so glad I did. It really helped me pin down the areas which I needed to review and those areas where I was already comfortable. I have been doing online and it really helped to be able to ask questions directly at that live review.

    I have just to practice and hopefully I should be at a place where I can comfortably take the exam on the 28th.

    @Theo and @RegMomCPA

    I am experiencing the same thing. I even commented on how things that I knew were there were not coming up no matter what you searched for. Needless to say, I bombed that test and think it's due to my comment.

    Anyway, I'm 0 for 3 on this section now, and subsequently am going to lose BEC because of it. Each time I walk out feeling like I did ok. I just don't get it. I'll probably try popping in here a lot more now. Hopefully I can pick up a few tips and even contribute a few.

    Jeff's question about leases just got me worried! Does everyone generally study lease laws for REG? There's nothing in my Becker 2011 edition on leases. My exam is on Monday, so I still have tomorrow to cram information about leases if needed

    #401219

    @No1

    Just want to clarify that your question does not pertain to initial contribution to the partnership. Rather, a sale of property to partnership is considered a related party transaction. In this case, losses from the sale or exchange or property are not allowed. But if the transaction results in a gain, it is considered an ordinary income.

    Becker book doesn't really elaborate what happens if the related party transaction occurs between a non-controlling partner (less than 50%) and partnership. But I can infer, similar to Individual taxation rule, losses are disallowed on (most) related party sales transactions. Otherwise, you can imagine that partners will continuously record a loss sale on purpose so they can claim a loss in their tax return. As far as gain, you'll always recognize gain in a related party transaction, whether an individual, corporation, or partnership. if you use Becker, just refer to R1 pg 68 and R4-7.

    I have a question about partner's basis in partnership. I came across a Becker MCQ where the partner's tax basis is decreased by charitable contribution. Why is it? The formula for partner basis is Beg capital account + all income – all losses – distributions. It's not clear to me where charitable contribution fits in the basis calculation. My initial thought that charitable contribution only reduces partner's taxable income, but does not affect the basis. Any thoughts?
