If I had 2 days I would say spend it on MCQ's coz then you can cover more topics.

The MCQ were very similar to NINJA MCQ, and I felt pretty good about them, but the SIMS/DRS are extremely difficult. Not just because of the nature of the material, but because of the information/documents you are supposed to review (and mind you, it is impossible to get both the documents and the SIM/DRS on the same screen to look at them simultaneously, so you waste your time flipping between the 5-10 documents (i.e. W2s, 1099s, 1098s, brokerage statements, etc.). In reality, you actually have the documents in front of you while preparing the tax return – which just frustrated me even more! I ended up with about a total of 8 SIMS/DRS (3-4 DRS and 4-5 SIMS), going into it with about 2 hours left – and finished with just under 10 minutes to go – but was very rushed. The 15 min break did me wonders! I do like that part of the change in exam!
Good luck!

AUD – 82
FAR – NOV 17
REG – 5/19/17
BEC – 73, 68, 7/29/17May 22, 2017 at 10:55 am #1558435HEPUNISHParticipantHello Guys,
Can anybody help me know ,that are Ninja Notes and MCQs enough for Regulation exam.Since i am planning to buy. Please help me.
May 22, 2017 at 11:10 am #1558464HollyParticipantI'm just starting to study this morning for REG. Hopefully the last one I'll take! Anyone else testing end of July? I know I'm early but seems like life happens when I follow the recommended schedule.
BEC - 79
REG - 85
AUD - 5/27/16May 22, 2017 at 12:28 pm #1558545linds0121ParticipantHi y'all,
Does anyone know if you can deduct tax depreciation on an asset you've stopped recording book depreciation on?
There are only two options: Make progress or make excuses!
Audit: 1st 71, 2nd 93
BEC: 80
FAR: 84
REG: 78May 22, 2017 at 12:43 pm #1558555wng1885ParticipantSeems like everyone here that has taken REG since the change has stated that they think they will need to retake it. Do you guys think that the exams will be scaled since its the first version of the exam? If the pass rate is like 20% they have to scale it up don't they?
May 22, 2017 at 12:49 pm #1558558mashloumParticipantTomorrow morning I will perform the exam, wish me good luck!
May 22, 2017 at 5:41 pm #1558729KodiakParticipantI'm back and I can definitely say the sims were the killer. I will probably have to retake this but after this experience I'll purchase the Gleim test bank and see if that helps. Good luck to those of you left! The Ninja MCQ were definitely great for the MCQ portion and I feel that and Becker did great, but dannngggg those sims. I feel so stupid and inept now LOL.
May 22, 2017 at 6:03 pm #1558750GoBears123ParticipantTo those who recently took REG and who (like me) are sure they failed — what is your strategy, given the ridiculous 3-month wait to get our results (August)?
My original plan was to switch gears to BEC and take it this summer, but I don't want to forget all my REG knowledge during that time and have to start all over once I learn I failed REG.
Super frustrating that we have to wait so long for our scores. Has anyone in California talked to the Board to see if they will give extensions on the 18-month window?
Thanks….
FAR - 6/4/16 - 82
AUD - 8/27/16
REG - TBD
BEC - TBDMay 22, 2017 at 6:32 pm #1558765KodiakParticipantI'm moving on to FAR and then will just do AUD. Then I'll deal with any retakes. My BEC credit is good till 8/18 so I've got a little time but I do feel this huge wait for scores is detrimental to those of us stuck in it. But it is a lot worse for others so I can't complain too much. I did crack up when my husband says, “So when will you know? Two weeks, three…?” I was all like, “Oh babe. You're cute.”
May 23, 2017 at 6:13 am #1558945JoshParticipant@HEPUNISH that's probably a good Ask @Jeff question, but I think you can do it! I've seen people in this forum do it! You probably want to ask them or research their posts on what they say about doing that..
@GoBears123 I hope you pass! Believe you did, somehow, despite how you feel now.. Then go pass BEC! If you're still waiting on your score at that point, study to take REG again believing you passed BEC! That's easier for me to say than do..I'm getting ready for REG, and I got so many things I'm wondering about because this is my first time in this 2017 exam and my first time with Becker. Someone told me add 10 points to my Mock Exam? Is Becker that hard? I scored a 67, but now I'm studying my weaker areas harder because I really want to be closer to 85. I heard Becker sims don't prepare well, but those were some tough sims. My MCQ's were higher at 71.
Time for my AICPA Sample Test. I could definitely see some mistakes I was making on that mock exam after reading some suggested modules. I still hope I got time for Gleim's “mega” test/simulation bank before Sunday.
@Esam Almashloum Good luck! I hope it is an excellent exam! And you pass!
@Kodiak welcome! And welcome any other Ninjas I missed.
@linds0121 that's an excellent question! Maybe, a good IRS question? I'm trying to think of where that may be done with MACRS? It seems like you could? All I know is you'd do a reconciliation if it was possible? Have you asked your review? Got a good example? I couldn't think of one.. since it's usually a temporary difference only.. and it's usually quicker on the books than on the financial statements when it's different? And in many situations, it probably can be.. I'll let you know if I find out something else 🙂May 23, 2017 at 7:25 am #1558953mashloumParticipantJust now finished the exam, which was more than tough for SIMS and you read the question you do not know in which part you are!!!
It's doable with extra more time, but within two hours for three SIMS it is nightmare
The MoC within the range not tough questions vs the SIMSMay 23, 2017 at 8:50 am #1558969megan shivesParticipant@GoBears123 – I'm also switching gears to start studying for BEC as well, hoping to take it in July sometime after just sitting for REG on Friday. I can't afford to wait for this ridiculously long results window as my AUD drops off in April '18. I'm moving on, and hoping I won't have to pick up my REG book again!
@Holly – I'm planning to start studying for BEC beginning June 1, I'm hoping to give myself plenty of time, especially with summer coming (which is always a busy time of year!).
It will be interesting to see what the results of this testing window are…they should pass everyone just because we sat through and attempted those SIMS!!
