Im also worried about how to study for the new changes. I have only taken FAR so I am not sure if REG will be a lot harder or easier especially with the new changes.

Unfortunately, the SIMs were pretty hard to predict (with or without Roger). I honestly think the NINJA SIMs are terrible for REG. I don't know why because they are great for the other 3. I think that the test being more SIMs will definitely make it harder. I think it is just an adjustment in the way of studying. Just knowing concepts won't cut it anymore, we will have to know how to solve all sorts of problems….

And to be completely honest, I find REG to be the hardest test of all of them. I majored in tax, worked in tax for several years and I have had the most trouble passing it, so I can't imagine it getting any easier…

agreed with @teal – it's not like an entire set of new MCQs and SIMS are being rolled out. It's just 4 more MCQs than before, +2-3 more SIMS, and 1 hour added to complete the test (all tests 4 hours now). With the 50/50 split and SIMS being what dragged me down last time, I'm working a lot on SIMS, but still giving a lot of love to MCQs. REG SIMS are just gross – need to be ready for anything.

I'll be honest – I'm actually looking into a tutor this go 'round (NOT because of new changes), I can't afford to lose BEC next month. And I'll be damned if I can't pass REG on my 5th try. Don't judge 🙂

    Hello Everyone,

I am still in college and just recently passed BEC which I took as early as possible! I plan to take REG in May after my graduation since I couldn't get it in before the changes. I'm nervous because finishing school, working full time, and still studying at least five hours a day on Becker on top of my other school work was very difficult. I double major in Accounting and Business Finance so I am really looking forward to receiving my degree. I start at B4 either this summer or Fall so I'm looking to get my CPA before then! Looking to be a part of this forum and get through this hard time with all of you. Good luck and may we all pass!

Actually, I don't know how knowledgeable she was, but someone from Roger came to my firm, and this was the info she relayed to us 🙂

If you have the Becker CPA course downloaded on your PC does it automatically have the necessary updates for the new REG exam??

    Thanks

@bmfrancis007 if it is the new version of becker (which came out in January – automatic update) then it will have the necessary updates for the new REG exam. If it is the old version of becker then I don't think it will

So I've been studying with CPAExcel and I noticed within the last couple days they updated the materials for 2017. One of the things I noticed is that there are some topics missing now, and mainly in the Business Law sections of REG. I no longer see Sales Law, Commercial Paper, and Dodd Frank. Does this mean these topics will not be on the new exam, or is there another issue here?

    @thelatebloomer

I'm pretty sure about Dodd Frank is no longer tested!
But may you please give me more details about the other areas. What changes had been made to 2016 materials?

    Regards.

I really only noticed those sections missing, including “Property Law.” The reason I noticed is because I had ordered my playlist for the Ninja Audio to match the ordering in the materials. After the change to the materials over the weekend, I went to re-order my playlist and noticed there were sections missing. After going through one of the sections on contract law, the lecturer mentioned the UCC Article 2 stuff would not be on the exam, but that some of the material may be needed to answer questions where passing of title occurs, so they included it. It just surprised me that I didn't see a section on Commercial Paper because I haven't seen anything that says pieces like this would not be on the exam. I just wanted to see if I didn't need to study these sections even though they'll still likely be in the Ninja MCQs.

It looks like the breadth of knowledge on business law was reduced slightly to accomodate the increased emphasis on TBS, which would be on tax. Don't quote me on that though. That's just what it looks like to me until I get confirmation.

Can I see a reference that says Dodd Frank isn't covered?

It appears as though no more UCC Sales Article, no more Commercial Paper, and no more Dodd Frank. I'm basing this off what my review course left out for 2017 changes. What is your guys advice for b-law? I feel like i spend so much time trying to learn all the details of b-law

@wakefern58 Which materials are you using? That's consistent with what I saw.

Last time I made the mistake of studying business law first, and then when it came down to crunch-time I wasn't as prepared for tax and completely bombed the sims. So I flipped it and I'm studying hard on tax, doing lots of MCQs and identifying weak areas. If I'm weak in some b-law areas I'm going to supplement my knowledge from there. But I'm also listening to the Ninja Audio over and over, and I think doing that alone should help me be prepared for the exam. I would rather do so many questions on tax that I can crush the sims (having increased to 50% of the exam) than to really master the details of all the business law topics, only to find a few questions on them. I would also assume that's why the business law topics have been reduced.
