I took REG exam last month and pretty much nailed the MCQ but did not succeed in simulations. The simulations were completely off the book. All the simulations that I practiced during my preparation were not even close to the exam version. Any idea on how to overcome this issue?

Using the authoritative literature helps. For example, if you get questions related to a C Corp, there's an entire section of the code on C Corps, and it tells you how basis should be calculated, how contributions should be treated, distributions, liquidating, non-liquidating, other taxes..

I thought it was impossible to memorize for the SIMs… Just way too much and the brain gets worn out during MCQs.

Maybe familiarize yourself with the authoritative literature?
