REG SIMs are going to eat me alive

I already see it coming. I’m killing it on MCQ… first time through MCQ’s in Wiley Test Bank I was scoring around 75% which included a lot of questions that I’m confident are way too detailed for what I’d see on the exam. Now on my second time through, I’m ballpark 85% to 90% and I think the concepts are hammered home.

However, these SIMs on the Wiley Test Bank are just eating me up. I think they are fair and probably comparable to what I will see on exam day but it rattles my confidence going through them. I understand the answers when I read them but it seems to test such a thorough understanding of randomly selected topics. Particularly, the corporate distributions with regards to AEP and CEP… I can handle the MCQ’s on these topics but the SIMs are so detailed.

With the exam in three days, it’s time to close my eyes, cross my fingers, cross my toes and hope for straightforward SIMs. I think what I see on these SIMs will determine whether my journey is over or if I’m right back to the books for a re-take of REG in a couple months. I’m TERRIFIED of what these SIMs will bring 🙁

    That's what I thought.

Then I took the test and the SIMS were pretty manageable, I actually had two come right out of the Wiley software.

But the MCQs were absurdly tricky and like 20 of them came from an ancillary topic that Becker said would barely come up.

Mdrobbin- I finally survived REG this month, but something I think helped me get over the top is that I answered any easy components of SIMS I was concerned about, then gave a face-value response to the rest if there wasn't a “catch” I didn't see – that way I didn't beat myself.

With Wiley, I noticed that some sims had the first component as something extremely basic – nothing to it! Nuance and detail gradually built up – but the tips from YEAGER suggest that Wiley does this more than the actual test (that tip came from a FAR video, but I think it works for REG too).

The first and second time I took reg, I found the authliterature blazingly useless, but this time it helped. Unlike in audit, I think it is better to expand the menus and look for the most relevant topic rather than searching for keywords. Can't guarantee that that advice is universal or just good for my particular draw of SIMS, but it makes sense in a way.

    B: 77 (LC), 75
    A: 63,74,88
    R: 60,67,80
    F: 71,74,74 again, and 86 - DONE!

    Ethics and application - done.

I know each test is different, but I was surprised by how straight-forward my sims were. If you are doing that well on the Wiley MCQs then I would assume you have a firm grasp of the material and you will be just fine. Don't let them intimidate you, just break them down and apply what you know. You will do great!

    FAR - 81 (8/31/12)
    AUD - 93 (10/19/12)
    BEC - 79 (11/27/12)
    REG - 92 (2/8/13) DONE! All 1st attempt!
