Hi guys,

I am ready to take REG in a few days and I had a question regarding the REG Research SIM. I seem to always be off on the Research and cannot exactly get the correct numbers when I am practicing the Research questions for REG. Any tips or advice on how to easily find the correct answer of what’s being asked? What has worked for you?

Any help would be appreciated. I sit for REG in a few days.

If the question pertains to say S Corporations, click on the S Corporations section and do a Search Within there. It'll limit your options to only those in that category and may make it easier to figure out

Use the advanced search. Also, make sure you are looking the proper AL. I imagine some people spend valuable time poring over the IRC when the answer pertains to the AICPA.

@juuustin: so how are we suppose to know if the research questions are actually from IRC or AICPA?

Regarding IRC vs TC (AICPA) –

If the situation is asking how CPA or tax preparer should handle a situation when preparing a return, then use TC

Otherwise, use IRC when it's asking for actual tax rules.

Example – The solution to this one is in TC…

“Jane Doe, CPA, prepares a annual form 1065 for a partnership. She plans to use an estimate provided by her client when she prepares the tax return. Where will she find guidance for the disclosure requirements regarding the use of estimates on the return.?”
