For REG, do I need to know that a Form 4868 needs to be filed for the automatic six-month extension (Oct 15th) or do I just need to know that a six-month extension would be granted with the proper form?

Trying to figure out how detailed I need to study this stuff…

    Thanks —

I don't think anyone can tell you how detailed you need to study. In my experience sitting for 3 sections of this exam I was always surprised by what was tested and what wasn't. In fact the one time I gambled on not knowing the details of something, sure enough I got a sim on it. The bottom line, of course you need to know the things that your review materials say are heavily tested, but you should read through all the chapters and at least be able to recognize terms when you get a detail question. You just never know…and it could be the point or 2 that make the difference. Just my view.

I personally memorized that form number, but in retrospect, I don't think it was essential that I knew that. I would definitely know Forms 1040, 1120, 1065, 706, 709, and 990. Forms like 4868 and 2120 are not worth knowing unless you're a Nervous Nelly like me.
