REG Question

I am using Becker Review to study for this section. While working the HW questions, I missed a question because I didn’t know that when a Corp. makes a matching contribution to a qualified university, that it would be counted as a Charitable contribution. Is this correct? Not often, but sometimes (rarely), Becker has something incorrect. Of course not because they don’t know, but rather they weren’t careful editing.

Can anyone provide some insight on this?

    Thanks!

I think the key word in that question is “qualified”. Meaning they “qualify” as a charitable organization. Let's say XYZ Corp tells the alumni of ABCU that they will match dollar for dollar their fundraising for a new Accounting Building. ABCU's alums raise $1,000 so XYZ Corp donates $1,000 as a charitable contribution. Now if ABCU wasn't “qualified” the they wouldn't get the charitable contribution deduction.

    Make sense?
