Make sure you study the CSO completely. Content specification Outline. How to prepare – the same way you passed the other 3 parts. Use the same tricks of the trade and you should be fine. Learn and understand tax forms, all the way from Sch A to Sch F, understand their flow. understand partnerships/ basis etc and their impact on 1065 & k1 as well.

Also do understand form 706 & 709. They are not mentioned that frequently, but they are important as well. This all is covered under the CSO and its fair game

-Don't stress about the Blaw (seriously… 20%? I feel like I wasted so much time)

-Make sure you know Circular 230 and Tax Preparer Penalties

-Pound the Multiple Choice (the more tax the better)

-Be absolutely sure to become familiar with the research function in the SIMS – It helps SO MUCH if you know how to use it

-It helps when you work as a tax accountant 🙂

    FAR(11/14/11)- 92
    AUD(01/04/12)- 91
    REG(05/30/12)- 93
    BEC(07/21/12)- 88

I disagree about b-law comment. My test consisted of lots of b-law MCQs!! Don't underestimate it. Study both tax and b-law equally, you never know what you test you get!

Def. focus on legal responsibility/circular 230 and so on.

Keep reading the chapters and working the MCQs/SIMs. Good Luck!

I completely disagree. Know the blaw, but don't stress over the extreme details. Your time is much better spent studying tax stuff.

practice TAX sims, pretty much all are fill in the blank…there are just some things you can't learn through mcq. if you are stronger in mcq and weaker in sims you won't go past 74 (this has been my experience at least)

blaw is not tested on sims so don't worry about those

Focus most of your energy on tax and understand the basics of B-law. This doesn't mean that b-law isn't important but the majority of the exam is tax (80%). As far as b-law goes, I wouldn't put a lot of energy into studying the details over and over again. You should understand the basics of each b-law chapter so that even if you get a harder b-law question on the exam, you can make an educated guess between two choices. If you focus on tax, it will make your test a lot easier!

    Thanks Becker!
