Tax AND business law? Kill me now…is this stuff even English? I thought BEC was boring, but REG is confusing and boring. I’m an auditor at a Big4, so I’m not too familiar with tax or business law since I don’t encounter that stuff on a daily basis….that’s why we have a tax team and lawyers right?? =/

Anyone have any study tips? I have both Becker and Wiley. Is one better than the other? I’m a little paranoid, so I’ll probably end up reading both if time allows. How helpful are the Becker flashcards for REG? Is the Becker ancillary material as important for REG as it was for FAR? Also, how similar are the Becker simulations to the actual test for REG? I didn’t use the sim software at all for FAR, so I can’t really judge. Any advice would help! Thanks!

I just followed Becker. I have few years experience of preparing taxes for my own firm and then studied business law in college. However studying for CPA is totally different. If you spend time and understand the core concepts for taxes like how property transactions are handled, basis calculation both for properties and businesses etc you will do fine. Lot of material in business law but again spend time to get a very broad picture of various sections in business law before you dwell into the details.

Spend last week to review most of the important areas, but then last day spend on calculating basis, handling property transactions, filling tax forms etc as these are heavily tested in simulations compared to business law. Wish you good luck.
