Ok so I’ve seen mixed responses about all the numbers/amounts that appear in REG. Becker has hinted that we really don’t need to know every single phaseout amount, but just to know the general idea regarding phaseouts. However, it does seem like we will have to know other numbers, such as exemption amounts and allowed deductions, etc.

Basically, I’m not sure how to study this.. is it safe to say know all numbers, except phaseouts? Or is that still overdoing it? Or should I know my phaseouts, too?

Also, if I’m taking the exam in November, do I need to know 2012 numbers or 2013? I’ve heard people say don’t worry about it.. but I know someone who took the test with an old book and says that the reason they didn’t pass…

    FAR 7/3/13 - 82
    BEC 8/21/13 - 82
    AUD 10/2/13 - 92
    REG 12/3/13 - 88

You will worry about the 2013 numbers.

I just took my REG exam today, and I will say that memorizing that information would have helped me right around………. zero percent.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

Haha okay… so for my own person reassurance: don't stress about the numbers, but if I happen to remember any of them, go for 2013?

The majority of the #s you need to know are in individual tax, which is the free section of ninja notes: https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-study-plan/

I will say knowing some of the numbers helped me on the sims…but that was only because I didn't have to waste my time looking them up in the AL. I stressed so much about memorizing the numbers and did memorize them all except for most of the phaseouts, but like UCMCPA said, it didn't help a whole lot.
