I see a lot of posts regarding what forms people should print out and study. Is there any real advantage to this?

I didn't see and IRS forms in REG nor do I think reviewing them would have helped me.

I think the biggest advantage is just using them to learn how they work, and understand income/deduction items rather than trying to purely memorize them.

I've found that understanding how the forms work helps me understand the concepts and “logic” behind tax. I know I'm using the term logic a bit loosely here…. 😉

Good question. I actually printed 1040 and 1120 after reading that other thread, just to find out that they are basically just a list of all the deductions etc. with boxes to fill in the amount. Can't possibly see how that can help me. What I need for the exam is to memorize what deductions etc. are allowable, and the amounts, thresholds and exceptions. Knowing what the form looks like will not be tested.

It helps me because if I get a question on a deduction that is for AGI vs. from AGI (just as an example), then I can picture the form in my head to remember where that item falls. But not everyone works that way or will get the same test I had. But I felt better going in having those images in my head.
