I’m taking REG (my first cpa exam) on Tuesday. However, I’m only done with 3 out of the 7 sections in Becker’s self-study review course. I’m going to try to finish sections 4-7 in the next 2 days if possible, leaving myself 3 full days for the final review.

You might think that this is rediculous and yes, it is. But I have taken Individual tax, Corporate tax, and Business law within the past year and just took Tax in grad school this summer. Most of the info is review, but its stuff I wouldn’t really remember without studying. Pretty much, I’m really bad at procrastinating and being sick for a couple weeks only made that worse.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I should take the next 6 days to study? Also, should I focus my studying more on the tax stuff and do a lighter review on the business law chapters? How many “practice exams” come with the Becker final review and how long do they take? Also, should I base my areas of study based on how I do on the practice exams. I don’t want to save the practice exam for the last day only to find out I got a 50 or whatever, so I’m gonna try to finish Becker, study all the material for a day, then take the practice exam so I know my weaknesses.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a suggestion– don't skimp on studying. Reschedule the exam and hit the books hard. When you're ready, take the exam.

Thanks for the advice, but I think I'm still gonna take the exam on Tuesday. I have audit scheduled for early January (I'll study for that during the month of December) and I start working in January too.

So, after today, all I will have left are the 3 sections on business law. I think I'm just gonna skim the chapters instead of watching the lectures (10 hours total). Then I'll get right to the multiple choice & simulations. That way I'll have a chance to finish everything by Friday night, leaving me 3 full days for final review.

Any suggestions are appreciated! please

redsox- take a look at the exam outline of what percentage of the exam will be actually tested for REG – i believe you will see that 70-75% of the exam is on the first four tax chapters and then 25-30% is on the final three law chapters (well including that of professional responsibility, etc). I def say skim the final three chapters – look at the pass keys in the chapter and go over the MCQs but i honestly wouldnt spend a lot of time there. Make sure you know corp tax – i believe that is 20% of your grade? i dont have it in front of me but that was a huge mistake of mine when i first took REG – i knew a little bit of everything and failed. Second time around i smarted up, looking at the exam outline and focused my re-studying on the first four tax chapters – i skimmed chapter 5 (never did any questions) and didnt look at CH6 or CH7 at all!!!! I passed with a 77 – close, yes, but I passed. Take my advice with a grain of salt if you will. Just my personal experience & advice. Best of luck! you can do it – even if you dont pass – at least know you how how the REG exam will be structured and what tricks they throw at you to kill it next time 😀

Bryn33: thanks a lot, that really helps with my confidence. I had the percentages of what was on the exam but I lost them all. Its good to know its mostly tax. Almost everything in tax in Becker, I have learned before and relatively recently, its just that I forget the material once the class ends.
