    Tncincy,

Most people say memorizing the phase out range is not required. But, I didn't see phase out amount was given in my previous exam.

Hi guys! I took REG on July 2nd! My second set of MCQ's was definitely easier :/ but the simulations seemed to go well!

Remember, the IRC is in the authoritative literature which helped me a ton! I'm an auditor and I couldn't distinguish the rules for something. I kept getting them mixed up and of course that was one of my sims. Luckily I was able to looked to the IRC for the appropriate treatment. Moral of the story, if you think you have no idea on a question, doesn't hurt to give the IRC a look!

    Hope this helps!

@Cat thanks and good luck. @coocooo phase outs are no necessary to memorize. I would say that you should recognize limits for certain topics like IRA contributions, homeowners exclusion, mom and pope exception, etc.

    – how's your studying going for FAR?

To be honest guys I am struggling to study…..really lost momentum. My test is on July 16th. I just can't focus for more than an hour of studying..not sure what to do. I am scoring mid 60s, not great. Same trending score as when i failed I got a 69.

@74phoenix I'm in the same boat as you, test is on the 15th and I definitely lost momentum during this 4th of July weekend. Considering pushing my exam another week, wouldn't want to but also wouldn't want to fail again. Sorry if that didn't sound encouraging, but the way I'm starting to think of it is that the $35 fee is a small price to pay to be better prepared after already taking the same section multiple times. I really want the next time I take the exam to be a pass.
Have you tried changing up your studying? Making it more interactive? I go through the flashcards, but use a whiteboard to write my answers (I'm a visual person). After going through a set I do MCQs based on that section to make sure I understood. If I get an MCQ wrong I write down the concept and understand why I got it wrong. Sometimes I do a set of random MCQs to make sure I'm not forgetting the other material. I also try changing it up like this so I'm not seeing the same MCQs and just memorizing answers from them.

@23 @karla thank you so much. I am glad i posted about this.. I feel like I always extend a week or two and fail anyway 😛 And then have to wait till august 20th to get my score? no thank you…and I have many summer plans already. I don't know why I'm not super into studying right now to get this over with!!

I should hang a sign in my bedroom that makes me angry – maybe that will motivate me.

Going to revamp my study plan and ask others to help – friends to keep me accountable, boundaries at work, notecards, paper MCQs instead of online, etc.

@74phoenix – How are you approaching this retake? It took me 3 attempts to finally pass REG scoring a 67, 73 and finally a 79. Seemed doing even more MCQs and a mass amount of SIMs got me over that hurdle. Don't lose momentum! You're almost there! July 16th could be the last time you take REG leaving you to enjoy the rest of your summer and having that relief that you have passed the CPA exam. Keep pushing on, you got this!

Do you that are using Becker, find that the practice exams are extremely challenging? I've studied like crazy and yet the practice tests make me feel like I don't know anything….

Hey. What all numbers/dates exactly am i supposed to remember? I read on the forum that generally they will provide phase out threshold, but still a whole bunch of other stuff is there to memorize!
Also, i have gone through individual taxation (using Becker); is the rest of it as bad?

The majority of the MCQ I'm getting wrong in Becker are because of not knowing the phase-out ranges. Are there any deductions/credits where I should at least have a general idea of the phase out range? I'm through around 1/4 of the material and have another 2.5 months to study so I'm willing to put in a little more effort into knowing some of these.

I'm fairly new to the cpa studying. I'm using Roger cpa review. I feel like there is a lot of information to study for each section. i'm getting bogged down and being concerned with studying EACH section for hours at a time to ensure I fully grasp it 100%. Is there anyone else who gets the same vibe as there's just TOO MUCH info? I also feel like the MCQs are another way of studying, almost better than the notes and lectures. Is there anyone who feels Roger CPA adequately prepared them for the exam

    @Desmond and @David
I can't list everything you have to remember because unfortunately there is a lot. What I generally hear is to memorize the numbers that don't really change year to year. If you have Ninja, I would recommend to look at the Ninja Notes. Pretty sure all of the numbers on there is what you need to know or if not it's a good representation of it.

Desmond, it gets a little better once you pass the actual tax portion and get to business law, etc. because it becomes more conceptual and less numbers. But you still have to memorize or know the way different things work.

I hope that helps and doesn't discourage either one of you from studying. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the response Karla. I am almost through with R3 property taxation and finding it little (just a little) easier than individual taxation. I don't know if it's actually easier or i am just getting a hang of this whole taxation thing!

@Desmond, no problem! I am so happy to hear that! Hopefully it is a bit of both, good luck!
