I personally thought REG was harder than FAR. There is slightly less information, but it is more detailed. Also, DON'T skimp on the business law/ethics part. It seems easy when studying, but my questions were very nit-picky.

So every one is saying Becker doesn't prepare you for the REG sims. Does anyone have an alternative suggestion. Has anyone passed REG this past window and felt good about their Sims? I am kinda freaked.

For my past 3 exams I didn't really study all that much for the sims, I guess I have always thought, If you know the material, you can figure out the sims. But then again, I didnt finish the sims on FAR or BEC, so perhaps my method isnt great.

Within the boundaries of what we can actually talk about… for those of you who had problems on the sims… why were they so hard? What was so different about them that you were unprepared.

Thankfully everyone is saying that Becker doesn't prepare you well enough… I'm only using Becker. I just finished the last lecture and I'm beginning my review tonight by going through 4-7. I take it on Oct 8th.. hopefully I have time to blaze through the final review materials. So from what I'm seeing, basis of all sorts, ethics, business law and other misc questions. The only part that I find truly difficult is corp tax along with basis since there are so many different types. I didn't like the Becker flash cards either; they definitely left out some important facts about certain topics while leaving in “unimportant” stuff. We'll see how my 1st section goes.

Hi REG takers — I have a simple question about Estate Tax. Since Estate taxes apply only if someone dies BEFORE 1/1/2010, are you spending time studying/memorizing this material? Have you heard that this is fair game for testing? Taking REG 11/11 — my last part!

as promised here is my take on REG after the exam.

the exam its self was EASY SIMS were straightforward. Just like with FAR i had little to no calculations!!! My score if I could guess is 69. You are probably asking yourself if it was so easy why a low score! Well the answer to that question is because I did not study that stuff!!!! they ask me stuff that was barely covered in becker or wiley. I mean the most simplest thing you could ask a person. I am frustrated because it is like why make me study and learn all this stuff just to give me a question as simple as…… I soo wish I could disclose because everyone would completely laugh!!! My sims were laughable!! I could not believe they ask me those questions I was expected this long confusing sims but nope simple as pie to bad it was not covered! here's to a retake in January!!

As everyone else has said, nothing can prepare you for the REG sims. The main issue I had was understanding what the sim was asking me to do. Plus, mine didn' t have complex calculations but it did take topics that were barely covered in my study material and go into a lot of depth with them. They were doable (as in, you could get at least partial credit) as long as you knew were VERY familar with the two paragraphs in the whole book on that topic.

I never thought I would get an 87. I don't really remember the multiple choice but I had some sims that were on topics I maybe studied for 15 minutes and thought would never be on the exam.

Glad Reg is done for you. Don't knock yourself, you probably did better than you thought. Remember how you felt after taking FAR? You still passed…so keep the faith. How were you on time? Crossing my fingers for ya.

Thanks for your thoughts. Congrats on being done. I am taking my second swipe at REG on Nov 1st. I agree, the sims were hard because it was so hard to decipher what they were asking me to do. I am going to go hard core on studying…need to pass this time around.

I completely felt the same way!! Some seemed so basic buy i was Like that was covered in the book with a paragraph how the hell am I suppose to know the answer to that!!! But i answered everything and def feel a retake coming in Jan!!! on the the next exam….Aud on 11/30/11 keeping my head up and my fingers crossed!!!

I just felt it was crazy because you study like 16 chapters or so for REG and I can honestly say 95% of my test came from 3 Chapters. That was what made me mad and 2 of my TBS were on something that was mentioned once in a small paragraph!!! But all i can do is go to the next topic so I was going to take a 2 week break then start Auditing but I need to put my mind on something else so Im going to take off this weekend and start on Audit!!!

the reason why I am mad is because we say that the becker SIMS are sooo easy! and don't study them! I went back and my sims were very identical to becker. I study hard on wiley sims thinking that they would be more comparable to what I see on the exam ! yep just my luck! I got becker type sims! I am actually not as sad as I thought I would be! I have moved to BEC and just making plan to retake in Jan.

Just wanted to let you guys know… I just took REG. 1st and 3rd testlets were fairly straight forward. 2nd was hideous!!! Simulations were not as bad as I was expecting. I was able to put the authoritative literature to excellent use, although I almost ran out of time. A lot of people say Becker won't prepare you well for REG but I disagree. I used Becker and Wiley online test bank and I felt that there were only maybe 5 questions that covered material I had never encountered. and about 3 of those questions were related to AUD (luckily I just took that test so the material was fresh in my mind). The only thing I would have done differently – and I knew this prior to taking the exam – was study MORE. There were areas I didn't feel strong enough in, and of course, there were plenty of those questions on the exam! Hope this helps for those of you studying for it now…. 🙂

I'm so jealous. My sims were awful from last testing period. I reviewed the Becker ones just for practice of the material and they were nothing compared to what i saw. Ugh, those sims did me in majorly!
