For any of you using Becker for REG know that it will not fully prepare you for this section!!! I used Becker for all 4 sections of the exam but definitely noticed that their materials stunk for REG. It's not that they didn't cover everything it's that they over-emphasized parts that weren't on the exam and under-emphasized parts that were. I ended up supplementing my Becker course with the Roger cram and felt it was definitely worth it. I expect something like Wiley or Ninja notes are other good supplements to Becker's REG section. For all the other sections I think I could have gotten away without supplementing Becker, but not REG.

Lots of practice will pay off in REG since there is sooo much to memorize. It was definitely the hardest section of the exam for me by far. Put some extra practice/study time in on REG if you're not a tax/law person because you'll need it! Those SIMS really are as nasty as people say. Much more detailed and nit picky on the smallest nuances of the tax code and laws.

    FAR (4/25/11) 94
    AUD (5/23/11) 93
    REG (8/22/11) 84
    BEC (8/30/11) 92

Well, back to drawing board for me. I'm actually quite pleased that I didn't bomb the test. I studied for over 200 hours, but ran in to some testing difficulties. I took REG the first time mid July and the exam crashed right before the simulations, so then i re-took it the following Monday and it crashed again right before the simulations. So then i took it the following Monday at a different site and made it all the way through, but I was mentally and physically exhausted by that time! (By the way, don't go to the testing center in Sarasota, FL they don't have their stuff together!! Trust me!!)

My performance report says i scored stronger in all categories except taxation on entities, stronger on MC but weaker on simulations. I must have really bombed my SIMS. They were really off the wall and nothing that was covered in Becker, but I gave them my best shot.

Time to regroup though, I'm updating my studying information and i also ordered the Roger cram. Hopefully that'll give me another angle to look at things. I'm praying this time around I'll be able to get the coveted 75!

    BEC: 75 11/8/10
    AUD: 89 2/22/11
    FAR: 78 5/17/11
    REG: 72, 83 10/17/11
    DONE!!!!

@ nszucs so what was your study plan? I am sooo freaking out! I have wiley and becker and ninja notes. I think I understand everything as much as I can possible understand. I felt the same with FAR everything they told me to focus on was not on my test. Kinda have to fear now with REG.

Took the first Final exam in Becker got a 58 on the first testlet 75 on the second and 66 on the last. I am making STUPID mistakes so I am taking notes on those and working at this again. Why they make you pay all this money to not even cover the real important stuff I don't know.

Did any one's becker material have MCQ for ethics, copyright and money laundering? On previous post folks are saying that the ancillary material needs to be read (which I will do) but when I did an update there was MCQ covering the ancillary items.

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

I took REG back in April and got 71, took it again in August and got 72. I'm using Becker, but I can't blame my failure to Becker as I only studied for 7 days for retake.

Becker covers MCQs really really really well. If you get strong on MCQ for all the areas in the exam, you should be able to pass.

As far as SIMS go, sims on my 1st test were hard…but not unmanageable (if you understand concepts really really well). Sims on 2nd exam were little better, but not as easy as Becker. Understand concepts, and pray for manageable sims…

Get Becker final review, that should help!!

Good Luck, let me know how it goes…I'm hoping to take it again (with 3-4 weeks of studying this time around:)

    @whenindoubt and hopefulcpa06,

I, like you, am back in the REG thread. Like I said in the Audit thread (didn't pass that either!!!!) I feel like I am Bill Murray in Groundhog Day. This window I will take both exams (again) This will be my second time taking REG and my third (eeeks!!!! sh*t,d*mmit) time taking Audit.

So far, the only thing I will do different is to purchase the Gleim testbank. Other than that, I am still figuring it out. I am taking it on Nov 1, so time to make a decision. I used Becker, Yaeger cram, Becker mcq's and WIley testbank.

@whenindoubt–I remember all your problems at Prometric–ugh! I am sure that was not easy.

Have you guys scheduled your exam yet? I am giving myself just about 4 weeks. Hope it is enough. If I can get passed these then I would be done.

best of luck to everybody this window!!!!

I am sitting for REG on October 21st and all these posts are starting to freak me out!!! I'm using Becker to study and am working on Chapters 1 – 4, learning them backwards and forwards. I'm getting a little nervous but hopefully will pass the 1st time.

I stopped working on the exam in fall 2009 after failing BEC by 4 points, and my audit credit lapsed this past January. Whoopsies.

It's taken me until now to find the motivation to pass the exam for myself rather than for my job.

    REG - 81
    FAR - 79
    AUD - 94
    BEC - OCT 15

    @yankeeaccountant,

I'm going to try to take it again mid to late October. My work and life schedule gets really hectic in November!

So far I've gotten through the first four sections in Becker. I'm kicking myself for not staying more up to date on the material during the break. I just really needed some time off. However, it's coming back easier than I thought it would. By the time I was done studying last section I could practically recite the Becker book from memory!

Good luck! Let's get it done this time around!!

    BEC: 75 11/8/10
    AUD: 89 2/22/11
    FAR: 78 5/17/11
    REG: 72, 83 10/17/11
    DONE!!!!

Good luck REG takers this window.

This exam was my beast—all told I spent 3.5 months studying it between my 2 attempts, even after all that I still felt like there were things I just hadn't grasped.

My review consisted of Becker and Wiley test bank(a really good supplement to Becker in my opinion)—I've seen plenty of comments about Becker not preparing you for the exam and while I agree its not their strongest section, Becker's book can definitely prepare you but be aware of all of the “smaller” items too—for example some topics covered several pages in the book whereas others covered maybe a paragraph—my second attempt at the exam I really made sure I grasped everything rather than trying to really nail the large topics and skim the smaller ones(in the past this strategy worked for FAR and BEC). If you are mastering the Becker questions, it might be good to supplement a different test bank just to get a feel for other ways that certain questions might be asked. My #1 piece of advice from a topic standpoint would be to know basis inside and out….otherwise get a good grasp of all of the material(with the CSO as your guide in terms of weight) cause you just never know what they will test on.

Hopefully you find the above helpful in your review, just my 2 cents and everybody learns/studies differently.

I only have REG left, but I really need to pass them during this Oct/Nov testing period due to losing credits in 2012 and having little time to study during early 2012. Does any body know if I'll be able to take REG in October, and if I fail (assuming the scores come back in early Nov.) be able to retake in mid-late November? Is it allowed to take a section twice in one testing window?

    BEC - 86
    FAR - 76
    AUD - 83
    REG - 49, 72

I just got my REG score and got a 73 on my second try. My first time I made a 71 . My score report shows comparable or stronger in all MCQ, but simulations were weaker. I feel like I have a good understanding of the concepts, but I can't seem to do well on SIMS. Does this mean i must have bombed by SIMS if my MCQ overall were comparable? Does anyone have any suggestions for studying for the SIMS??
