I don't know who is taking REG this up coming window but I am soooo afraid!!! I am studying and studying but dang it some topics just aint sticking. As much MCQ that I doing you would think that I would at least memorize them and score a 100% but my memory sucks (I guess that is a good thing because the stuff I getting right is what I actually know). Scoring in the high 70's low 80's. FAR has scared the crap out of my and I STUDIED for that test ( barely made it).

Just don't won't to fell cause I do not want to do this one again!

okay vent is over back to studying 🙂

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

I have failed REG for the third time and it's my last section. I have gotten “comparable” on most MCQ sections. My weakest topic has been corporate tax. But I have gotten “weaker” on the simulations every time. I just can not seem to prepare myself for the 2011 simulations. I feel the topics are always out of left field. If you can't tell, I am asking for any study advise any of you can provide for this section, and the 2011 sims specifically. I take the exam again in Nov and I pray 4th time is the charm. Thanks.

    BEC - 80
    FAR - 75
    AUD - 68, 87
    REG - 61, 65, 69, 75

I have used Becker for all parts. I have a 2010 Bisk REG book I have recently come across to supply me with more MCQ, but the sims will not represent the 2011 version.

    BEC - 80
    FAR - 75
    AUD - 68, 87
    REG - 61, 65, 69, 75

its crazy how nothing prepares you for the sims. have you tried Wiley. that is what I have and I hoping but just working as much as I can get me to the 75. Do you study any sims before a test?

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

I haven't tried Wiley or anything besides Becker. I study the Becker sims but they are not representative of the exam sims. I have not gotten a single tax form to fill out in 18 sims over the 3 REG exams I've failed and I have had no sims asking me to check boxes. Yet this is primarily what Becker has to offer.

    BEC - 80
    FAR - 75
    AUD - 68, 87
    REG - 61, 65, 69, 75

i too have becker and knew for FAR that their sims were off base before I even took the test! the sims for REG is scaring me because I don't know how to prepare and i know that it can be a do or die situation. any advice???

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

I took REG in April and failed by 4 points, took it again in August (studied for 7-10 days) and failed it by 3 points. I'm using Becker and I can honestly say that Becker def. prepares you well for MCQs….just keep doing them until it sticks.

I got my performance review sheet this time around and it showed stronger in MCQ overall and weaker in SIMS…well, duh.

I can't blame Becker from my failures as I should've actually studied more. Next time, i'm hoping to do even better in MCQs (get all strong instead of weaker in business law and other few parts…didn't study it last time), and hope that gets me 75! There's no way to study for SIMS, except to understand concept best of your ability and pray for better luck!!

Good Luck, and hope you get it next time around!

I just passed REG on the first try using Becker. I took a few days off from studying for my last section and thought about what helped me get through REG:

    1. Definitely give yourself ample time for the sims. Some were straightforward, but a couple were totally unanticipated. One took me somewhere around 30-45 minutes to research.

    2. Because sims are such a time drain, you need to have a disciplined mcq strategy. Before starting the first testlet, I jotted down my planned time schedule on the scrap paper, just to help keep me on track time-wise. Earlier on this thread I saw someone thinking they could skim the ethics section of their materials. Bad idea. Ethics and business law are great areas to pick up quick points without having to do any time intensive calculations. Don't ignore this area!

    3. My Becker materials came with the pre-made flashcards. I didn't drill the cards for REG as much as I did for FAR, but I did skim them over as part of my final review in order to quickly refresh myself on core topics.

    4. REG is one of those beast exams that, no matter how much time you put in preparing, you always feel like you need more time before sitting for the exam. Everyone feels that way. Don't let it get into your head.

    5. My exam day morning routine: get to the Starbucks by my Prometric center an hour or two early. Have breakfast while doing a final review of main principles and formulas. 20 minutes before heading into Prometric, put away the materials, listen to my iPod while taking a short walk to get rid of the jitters and pump myself up.

@nyccpa thanks for the post man-well put & i think i was one who menitoned skimming ethics. my basis is just thata fter taking/passing other 3 sections, i feel like i have a good feel for the ethics type questions/instinct. still, per your advice, ill defintly give it some more focus. sim-wise, i havnt touched yet whiel studying so well see-currently im just going through millions of m.c. per usual & note taking/post it note going crazy (my method)

anyway, thanks again-def a confidence booster

    goodluck all
